Garret wanted new talent to flow into their organization. Ever since his release from prison and run-in with Zhi's forces, he had considered the usefulness of a special forces team which could be used to get difficult jobs done, as well as bolster the strength of the various outposts they had throughout the area.

As such, his orders to gather new recruits for training a few weeks back had finally shown fruit. They had thirty volunteers for the job. Fresh meat, Garret supposed, from their homeland. Garret had provided the instructors with a series of things he wanted the recruits to be trained on, and gave a general idea of what he wanted to see come from the training. Stamina, strength and combat ability were Garret's primary concerns, having stealth come secondary to that.

The recruits were all finally here, though, and Garret decided it would be good to size up the newbies. This time around, he was wearing a simple white t-shirt and some military-issued combat shorts. They were gathering in the outer hallways of the organization's newly purchased villa. The hallways spanned the entirety of the walls that kept peeping eyes from viewing what took place inside the villa. The total distance around the perimeter was about 760 meters. It was early morning, and time for them to begin their training with a jog.

Garret stood before the recruits, in the hallway that comfortably fit 4 people side-by-side. There were three instructors standing slightly behind him. "Listen carefully." Garret began, addressing the new recruits. "We have gathered you here today to become the best of the best. This is a streamlining program that will turn each of you into combat-oriented experts, who will carry out their missions without fail."

Garret paused, letting his words sink into the new recruits. "Our nation's fate is to lead the others under one rule, and to better this world through that rule. You will be the pillars of support that help make that happen. It's a heavy weight, that much is certain. But that's why you're here today. If you can pass the rigorous training, you will be well on your way to being a part of our great history."

There were definitely elements of propaganda that Garret was telling them, but that simply came with the job. "Always keep it in mind, however, that to graduate here you must strive to resolve yourselves to always give your best, and always push your limits. If you fail our training, you will be forced to return home, and trained there for other military endeavors."

Garret motioned to another of the instructors, who stood forward and briefed the recruits on how many times they would be running around the perimeter of the halls. When the instructor told them three times, Garret frowned. Three times around was around 2 km, which was certainly a decent training, but Garret wanted something that would cull the weaker recruits and provide him with the best of the best.

He refrained from saying anything, and began running ahead of the recruits. One of the other instructors kept a decent pace that was a bit slower than Garret's. Another instructor slowed down and waited until he was about 15 people behind the front, while the last instructor brought up the rear. As they finished the second lap around the perimeter, Garret noted that there were four individuals that had managed to run a good pace all throughout. They were all sweating a decent amount, but they had run almost two kilometers already, so that was to be expected.

When they had finished their jog at the end of the third lap, Garret waited for everyone else to trickle in. They had been jogging for about half an hour, and Garret took note that many of them were having a difficult time breathing, though the four that had kept a similar pace as his were breathing just fine.

The next instructor took charge, and Garret followed. There was a brief rest and re-hydration period that came before the strength training. The equipment in use here were dumbbells. There was enough equipment for half the class to participate at a time, and so they rotated between resting and exercising. As Garret walked amongst the various recruits, it seemed to him as though some of them were not challenged with the amount of weight they were handling. No instructions for heavier equipment was provided for the recruits. Again, Garret frowned at the laxness of the training, but simply continued to observe.

After an hour or so, the final instructor brought the group into a classroom where the methods and techniques of stealth were taught. Garret could have sworn he mentioned that he wanted less focus on stealth than what he wanted on physical training, but it seemed as if the instructors were so set in their ways that he would need to forcibly adjust the training that was taking place here. Garret was dissatisfied with the level of intensity the training had.

He would work something out.
