Hot air….. Dry weather…. Endless desert… The Desert of Forgotten Souls… The biggest of its kind in the world. The enormous body of sand had become one of the most important and transcendent phenomena in the whole world. It was said that if one entered without the direction of a Heliohaptan you would be lost for eternity. Farah had heard endless stories of these rumors, and he DID actually believed them. The previous week however, he had ventured into the sands of the desert that looked like an eternal ocean of sand and dirt. The sun rays fell upon its surface as if caressing the hair of a maiden. The rays of the sun were however, inclement, and showed no signs of mercy whatsoever. They heated the small sand grains like a smith heats the coal for his work. Taking it to the highest of temperatures, to the highest of burning points, almost as if a cruel torture, taking it to the most extreme points that were physically possible. The san burnt like a thousand coals in the day, and still people lived inside its inhabitable nature. Just as another sign of men’s arrogance to the gods. Defying the places they deemed should remain unconquered for eternity, men in its stubbornness looked for ways to test their patience and might. Like a child that defies its father when he stablishes off grounds, the gods placed the inclement temperatures of the desert as a warning. Nevertheless, human kind was one to always challenge the prohibited, to create the impossible, to discover the hidden, and to conquer the impenetrable. Such is the nature of the greatest race amongst races in planet earth. It is impossible to stop them once they’re decided, by courage and determination are the biggest weapons a human has to challenge the divine prowess of gods and the absolute word of fate. Such is the case of the people of Heliohapt, rising one of the greatest civilizations in the heart of the Desert of Forgotten Souls. However, not everything was lost in this endless hell. Night came like a comprehensive mother…. Like a healing mother… The shade of the moon brought along its dark cloak and coat a coat of restoration and healing. As if the deities of night decided that the god’s will should be limited and their wrath controlled, the night desert cools itself to the point of extreme cold. This was an ironic allegory, as in an attempt to fix the anger they sprout on daytime, the night came to torture men in the same fashion, under the opposite circumstances. Those who traversed through the desert unprepared, would find themselves burning in the day and freezing to death in the night. It was indeed the place where two of the most opposite interactions occurred under a single place. Perhaps it was decided in the eves of existence that the desert should come to be known as the place where the epitome of the elemental display in nature danced for the end of times.

The red haired Fanalis was one of the ones that now faced the god’s desert wrath.  He lived in the majesty of the city of pharaohs. The young adventurer woke up early that day, he had heard rumors of an old traveler that held incomparable wisdom. He didn’t know what the prowess of this traveling sage were, but the sayings were spread in all the taverns and bars of Heliohapt. Farah decided to go and take a look at what made someone legendary. He wanted to be respected just as the man that now fazed the population of the city. He wanted for his stories to be heard throughout the most remote nooks of the planet. He wanted for him to be told as a legend, one that would live through the inclemency’s of time and the sands of forgetfulness. Farah knew that for this to happen he’d need power beyond imagination, but at the same time he wanted to know what made the mysterious old traveler such a figure. He didn’t have any trusty sources yet, but he was sure he would be able to pinpoint such an illustrious person. The red haired man woke up early that day as he planned to make his way throughout the streets of Heliohapt in the hopes he could find the man everyone talked about. Farah just went out of curiosity, for if one was able to gather such a fame for himself, it ought to be strong. He asked throughout bars and traveling merchants asking for information that would bring him leads to his location. Apparently the sightings behind the man were contradictory. Some said he was near the ruins of the ancient temples, close to the huge construction of the Black Pyramid. Some said he was found in the most crowded of crowded brothels in Heliohapt where one could find the most delicious of delicacies in Heliohapt. Some others said he got drunk every afternoon in the most famous bar of the city, where even members of royalty assisted to get the occasional drink. However, some people, and for some people he meant an old lady that carried water every day from the outskirts of the town where oasis were plenty, that the man object of such praises would rest by the shade of a palm tree, away from the boisterous noises of the royal city. Farah wasn’t sure which of all the different versions to believe. One part of him thought that he was near the ancient ruins, where the wisest sages of the town gathered to discuss the wonders of the world. However, his guts told him that such an important man renowned for his prowess wasn’t one to sit and discuss the origins of life and the rules of literature. He instead opted to follow the old lady’s advice and headed to the outskirts of Heliohapt to find that so called oasis. He wasn’t sure why he was following the minority’s advice. Either way, he was one to follow his instincts, and the now told him he had to head that way.

The way to the location of this man among men was uneventful. The crowded streets of Heliohapt made it a bit slower to reach, but eventually Farah made it to the place where the old lady said she had seen the famous traveler. He found himself in a location that was not out of ordinary. In fact, Farah would say it was below worth of attention. It was near the rusty and old gates of the city, where the entrance had been hundreds of years ago, but now simply the remains of a glorious past were left and people forgo the service that old time has given them. A few palm trees gave shade in that hot day, saving passerby people from the inclemency of the sun. There was a small abandoned and even more destroyed water well in one of the sides of the road. The little and narrow road had once been the most important to enter the city, but now it was barely qualifying as a paved road, since it was more of a stone and dirt path that was marked by the pass of people and time, hidden beneath layers of dust and sand that showed the diminished state in which it found itself. However, what caught Farah’s attention greatly about this place was not the air it gave of forgotten greatness, but the fact that a man laid beneath the shade of the palest of the trees. “Could he be….?” wondered Farah to his interiors. It seemed strange that such an important man was in such a forgotten and unimportant place. Nevertheless, the red haired adventurer decided to make away his doubts and interrogatories regarding this man and instead find it out once and for all. He slowly walked next to him, as he saw him laying back against the trunk was one hand in his head and a hat that covered his face. “They say one can find a legendary adventurer resting in these surroundings in these times.” His tone was a friendly yet serious one, implying one too, hinting the possibility for a positive answer. “They say one can sleep without being bothered over here too.” grumbled the man irritated. However, this was a sign for Farah, since he didn’t either negate his previous statement and neither affirmed it. One that wanted to steal glory that a name brought would be fast to boast about his greatness. “Perhaps we’ve both been lied to” he answered after making a small pause. The man grumbled once more before taking off the hat to look at the intruder with a serious and annoyed expression.

“Hmmph… what do you want kid? Don’t you have better things to do rather than bugging adult people?” His eyes were still closed, and he had yet to see Farah’s face. However, the Fanalis had pretty well seen him now, and the look of disbelief in his face was something to note about. He couldn’t believe what he saw before him. A man with three scars that were done by one, most likely by a beast, a missing arm, but above everything else… Red hair. “Well………. I’ve heard rumors about a man that had power beyond anyone alive” he said, trying to catch his attention. The Fanalis man simply chuckled at the remark as he immediately rose up, rubbing his eyes before opening them. “HA! According to whom?” the expression in his face changed as soon as he saw Farah at last. It was obvious that he had noted the young’s red hair too, but tried poorly to hide it. “Exactly….” replied Farah taking a small pause. “I came to see what was worthy of being praised that way… and test it for myself.” Farah looked at the man with determined eyes. However, the red haired adult simply burst into laughter before speaking a single word. After he finally managed to calm himself, he finally replied at him whilst chuckling here and there. “I like you kid… but you’re 300 years too young to challenge me.” Farah clenched his teeth at the remark, but he knew it was true. He didn’t like the idea of having to recognize the man’s prowess with only a simple glance. He knew he was no match for him for some reason, and the fact he couldn0t understand why he felt that angered him. He decided to suck up all his pride instead and reply in the most earnest way possible. “In that case… train me…” Farah bowed his head to the ground as he begged to the adventurer to train him. The red haired man laughed once more as he blew him off instantly. However, after a small negotiation that included booze, girls and money Farah convinced him to teach him. “Name’s Qahir.”

Farah underwent training with Qahir for the next couple of weeks. His new master told him about the power to conquer beasts, and dominate upon their will. He believed that those who could impose their dominance over the mightiest of beasts could rule the world. Farah was interested in this power he spoke about, and asked to be taught on it. However, putting it in words was way easier than in practice. Day and night spent Farah trying to dominate the exercises his new master gave him. He was taught with smaller animals first, bugs and ants. Qahir told Farah that the secret lied on projecting one’s internal strength to the outside throughout his whole body and impose over the wills of animals. Farah didn’t quite understand it, but he tried as much as he could. Weeks passed, and not a single sign of progress could note. He focused every day in his trainings as he tried to project this energy. “Dominance is not imposed over anger and fear, but over mutual respect and understanding.”

Farah focused on Qahir’s words after that moment, and soon after he could make ants freeze in the spot for hours. They then passed onto bigger animals. He was taught by Qahir to amplify his inner strength and project it into the exterior in a more efficient way. The struggle was hard for Farah, since he was not one that had much patience. Qahir told him that in order to impose dominance over beasts he had to win their respect first. A beast that admired and cherished his master was one that would follow him to the depths of hell itself. Farah made sure to take notice of all of his advices, and he made sure he would need them in the days to come. Days went by, and Farah was forced into rigorous training to amplify his inner strength. He meditated a portion of the morning, trying to concentrate in the pureness inside him and those things that made him valorous. He would surround himself with cats and dogs as he tried to command them not to fight through his will. However, this ended in disaster many times and not without the occasional scratch or bite too. Finally, Qahir deemed him worthy and ready for a test.

Farah couldn’t picture the kind of the training the man would force him to do. However, he believed in the knowledge of his master. Qahir had earned Farah’s trust in the lapse of weeks, and Farah had earned his. Either way, the red haired man couldn’t deny his methods were…… unorthodox. He was a witness of this first hand, as Qahir locked him up in a cell with a large desert tiger with fierce look and sharp claws and fangs. Farah would’t be worried for facing such a creature. However, he had to admit he now trembled by his master’s methods. “ARE YOU FUCKING TRYING TO KILL ME!!!???? he screamed at Qahir as he struggled trying to break free from the chains he had placed him on. The tiger was barely 10 meter away, and Farah was nowhere near to freeing himself. “Bah! Shut the hell up! I’ve always known you’re not quite the student to learn by theory… Just command him to stop through your dominance projection. And… if you fail….. you know, you’ll only die” Farah couldn’t believe the vicious smirk that Qahir had in his face. “One of these days…” Farah mumbled to himself as cold sweat ran down his forehead. The tiger now noticed Farah’s presence and ran towards him with a fierce roar. The Fanalis had to admit he now panicked. The mighty presence of the animal made it even more difficult…. Wait, that was it.

Farah immediately calmed down, and took a deep breath as the tiger rapidly closed the distance between them. He glared at the beast with a look of determination. One that reflected the inner fire and prowess he possessed. One that reflected his true spirit and courage. The tiger slowly stopped in his tracks to the point of ending inches away from Farah. He lowered his head as he licked Farah’s forehead. In the end, both people and animals were beasts in the end….. But the one that imposed dominance over the other through their being, was the one to be called king.
