ingyi kept her hands clasped behind her back as she watched her mentor enter the family dojo. His hair seemed to be ruffled, and there were cuts marring his skin that she hadn't seen before. But the woman didn't dare bring up her questions as he crossed over to the mats where she stood.

"Do your laps, your stretches, and then fetch your swords,"  Zhihao ordered, watching as his student nodded her head before she headed to the outdoor courtyard to run. He didn't even bother to check on her to ensure that Jingyi was doing as she was told, instead, he trusted her enough to follow her orders so he could do his own warmups.

It didn't take his student long to finish her running and enter the dojo again. He watched as she paused to take a small sip of water from her waterskin before the redhead begun her stretches. After that point, it was a short wait until she appeared back in her spot, forehead wiped of sweat as she stood in position.

"I want you to practice your form with Yu Chang and Chun Yu. I believe doing such for half an hour should be satisfactory. Once you're done, report to me," he asserted in a low tone before turning around and exiting the dojo. Zhihao had business he could attend to while Jingyi was busy, so he saw no point to baby her.

After he had left the room, Jingyi dragged over a family dummy. It was wooden with padding around its spinning limbs, with a head that could be used to target as well. Once she had set the figure up, Chun Yu and Yu Chang were drawn from their sheaths. Sunlight from the nearby window reflected off their polished steel, shining in the otherwise dim room. Jingyi took a deep breath to steady herself before both blades were raised in preparation. With a swift step,  Jingyi lunged forwards and swung her right arm, her sword a mere extension of the limb. It sliced into the padding, the force sending the dummy's arm spinning around. Jingyi ducked down, allowing it to pass harmlessly above her as she turned. Her second blade struck out, sending another arm rotating around to whack her. Immediately Chun Yu was raised to defend her side as its brother was used to attack the dummy once more.

Jingyi continued with her practice like this, taking free opportunities to step back and breathe. Occasionally the dummy would land a strike, its padded limb smacking her in the knee or the side. But retaliation would soon be dealt, with the redhead striking back against her partner. Time seemed to pass loudly, its weight bearing down on Jingyi as she danced with the dummy. Thirty minutes seemed like an hour, and she would be lying if she said that she wasn't relieved when she heard the familiar, "You may stop now."

At his command, Jingyi whacked away an incoming arm before jumping back and sheathing her swords. After she took a second to drag the back of her hand across her forehead, Jingyi turned to face Zhihao. His golden eyes looked her over before the man walked over to her once more.

"We'll have a spar again today. Two swords, the first one to be disarmed is the loser," He informed her as his pair of blades were unsheathed, his eyes narrowed as Zhihao studied Jingyi. His student's response was a curt nod before she stepped back. In a flash, her own swords were drawn and prepared to take on her mentor once more.

ingyi stepped back as her mentor rushed at her, his short dash eliminating the distance between them immediately. She dragged her gaze away from his piercing yellow eyes in favor of throwing up her swords in an x-formation. Seconds later, a blow that made her arms tremble smashed against her defenses, its force pushing the redhead back a couple of steps to avoid toppling over.

Sucking in a breath, the warrior moved forwards to retaliate against Zhihao, only for the man to dance away from her blades. With fluid movement that she could barely replicate, he stepped around her before lunging forwards. Before she could prepare herself, Zhihao unleashed a quick, vertical slash that knocked Yu Chang. Again, she felt herself stumbling back. Gritting her teeth, she felt rage push herself forwards at her uncle. Her swords aimed to pierce through the gaps he had opened, but suddenly, Jingyi's vision went white, a sensation followed by the hot flare of pain through her jaw.

A cry almost left her lips, restrained by her biting her tongue as Jingyi fell back. Bitter tears prickled at the corners of her ruby eyes that narrowed. Her breath came in gasps while she clenched her jaws that pulsated in pain. Already she could feel the bruise form on her cheek as Zhihao settled back from the roundhouse kick he had delivered.

Offense wasn't going to be an option, Jingyi told herself as she raised her blades. Her body felt like lead, the girl thought quietly as her eyes tried to follow Zhihao. Once more he was in her face, but as she whipped her swords out in an attempt to block an incoming turn, he feinted to her right. The redhead could feel her heart hammering in her chest as she turned on her heels, desperately trying to follow her uncle's movements. But in one graceful spin, he knocked her back again. She felt the rake of iron against her forearm as his sword caught her, leaving a crimson stain among her thin armor.

Jingyi gritted her teeth as she moved away from Zhihao, her swords trembling as she ignored the flares of pain. She could barely concentrate, her gaze falling to the red drops that fell from her arm. But the sound of charging feet forced her attention back to the black-haired soldier, his swords raised to smite her once more. With a jump to the side, she avoided a chop of his blade. But Zhihao swiftly turned and chopped his other sword, its tip barely missing her cheek as Jingyi jumped back again. His third swing was met by Chun Yu, and after her successful block, Jingyi felt her heart swell. She could still do this.

Knocking his blade away from him, the girl threw herself at Zhihao and swung Yu Chang. Her sword was met by his, and he mirrored her by pushing the sword away. The momentum of his push made Jingyi trip over her feet as she tried to regain her balance. Her arms swung outwards to stop herself, but already the "death" blow was coming. Zhihao lunged into her, his force almost throwing Jingyi off the ground. But in a flash of steel, he swung both blades in an x-pattern. The attack caught the girl, bashing her downwards and knocking the breath out of her chest.

Jingyi let go of both of her blades as she curled onto her side, grabbing at her breastplate as she sucked in a breath. Above her, she could hear Zhihao steadying his own breathing, the sound of his feet on the dojo alerting her that he had stepped away. With one fortuitous shove, Jingyi forced herself to sit up. She had lost their match.

ingyi grabbed the hilts of her swords before pushing herself to her feet. She was a little woozy, but the girl quickly straightened herself out. It was obvious from the way she stood to her narrowed eyes that she was doing her best to ignore the pulsating pain that covered her body from the match. But she wasn't about to let it get the best of her; she was a soldier, a member of the Hou Clan. A future general and a person that many would look up to for her prowess. If there was no pain, then there was no gain, after all.

She forced herself to raise her chin proudly, her stance widening as she sheathed her swords and once more clasped her hands behind her back. There was a look of approval deep in her mentor's eyes as he turned around, fetching a kit to bandage the cut that Jingyi had received. She caught the toss of gauze and the flask, using the liquid to clean out the shallow wound before tightly wrapping the bandages around her forearm. Once Jingyi was done, the medkit was returned and Zhihao had her sit down so they could continue their training.

Sitting with her legs crossed Indian style and her hands resting in her lap, Jingyi watched as Zhihao once more drew his blades. With quiet words, he explained their family's technique- the Shuangzi Wu. A technique that could only be used by a wielder of two swords by a warrior who had proficient control over the art style. It totaled eight strikes that were weak on their own, but combined could fell any enemy easily. The blows that Shuangzi Wu comprised of was easily adaptable to any situation, and that the attacks that Zhihao had used against Jingyi earlier was a slower, water-downed version of the same ability.

Her pain forgotten and dulled to a mere throb, Jingyi jumped to her feet at the order to stand. Her hands slipped to the handles of her swords, her eagerness shaking her fingers as Zhihao brought over the dummy. In a whirl of blades that flashed in the sunlight, he demonstrated Shuangzi Wu in its full power. It nearly tore the poor figure apart, forcing Jingyi to go to the back and retrieve her own to practice against. Her simple commands were that she strings together eight attacks and Zhihao would correct her.

Standing in front of the whirling dummy, Jingyi took a deep breath as her eyes fluttered closed. She forced her mind to push the pain away as her gaze fell on the dummy once more, focusing instead on it and her arms. Her swords were her hands, and her body was a light feather. If Zhihao believed that she could perform the technique, then Jingyi knew that she could. Raising Yu Chang and Chun Yu in unison, the redhead lunged forwards with the best of her abilities. Her left arm was slowed by the cut, but she nevertheless slashed her blade downwards in a quick strike. The attack was followed by her pivoting around and kicking out her leg, smacking her heel into one of the dummy's many rotating limbs. With a fluid step, she jumped back again but not before she dealt another swipe of her sword for her makeshift foe. Her next few attacks were a series of chops, and before she knew it, the eight strikes were completed.

With heavy breathing, Jingyi stepped back and raised her swords once more, allowing the dummy to come to a stop on its own. Zhihao came near her and explained the mistakes she had made. One step was too far, another attack too slow. Shuangzi Wu was a dance, and her movements were to follow of one. Rapid, swift, and blindingly fast. That was what her strikes must be to complete the ability correctly. Not only that, she was aiming too low or too high. Her targets would be parts important to a fighter- his hip, his knee, his shoulder, his wrist, even his neck.

With a command, Jingyi was unleashed once more onto her wooden partner. This time she urged herself faster, her body forgetting its pain as adrenaline pumped through the girl's veins. One step, two step, three step, each movement was followed by a razor fast swipe or swing of her sword. One attack led to another and then another. It was second nature to weave around the spinning arms, barely feeling as they grazed past her skin. Four step, five step, six step, it was becoming easier. Each strike of her blades cracked the dummy making it easier for her to continue. Seven step, and then the eight step. With one final blow that she poured all her effort into, Jingyi brought down Yu Chang with a mighty sweep. The dummy clattered to the ground in pieces as Jingyi stepped back to observe her creation. She could feel her heart hammering, her jaw pulsating, the flare of pain in her chest and arm. But the girl could also feel proud as she glanced at Zhihao through the corner of her eye. From the approving glint, Jingyi could tell that she was good enough to use Shuangzi Wu out on the battlefield.
