Job Details:
Job Name: Missing Villagers III
Job Rank: B-Tier
Job Location: Kou
Job Rewards: 200 XP, 15,000 Huang
Job Prerequisites: - N/A
Job Overview:

After successfully freeing the eight women from their prison, their conditioning only seems to get worse. Rima will then find herself in quite the dangerous position, having to fend off from this newly-found threat.

Enemies for Rima:

Enemy Name: Infected Villager x6
Rank: C-Tier
Needed damage to take down: B-Tier
Description: One of the villagers Rima rescued, now turned hostile and seemingly being controlled by something. Their skin seems to wriggle and writhe, a strange black substance can be seen from under their skin.
Abilities:

  • Regeneration - The infected villager is capable of healing up to C-Tier wounds.
  • Enhanced Strength - The infected villagers basic attacks will deal up to C-Tier damage.

Equipment Brought:

Name: Headless Caster
Tier: A
Type: Magic Weapon - Wand/Club
Magic Type: Abomination - Life|Strength|Heat
Appearance: Despite its name, this wand has a 15cm diameter pumpkin head made from painted metal adorned to its tip. The head is surrounded by a fabric of woven human hair dyed to color and fashioned into a sort of "cloak" that the head seems to be wearing. The entire arrangement is 50cm in length counting the wooden handle which is carved from an execution tree where many innocents were hung by bandits after having their village raided. When one holds this staff on a full moon, it is possible to feel the resentment of those who died on that tree. The pumpkin's eyes glow red for the night and black rukh flutters around the wand regardless of the rukh alignment of its wielder giving it quite the sinister appearance.
Function:

  • Grudge Manifest -  Feeding magoi into the wand and pointing it at the ground in front of the user causes a vortex of black mist to appear at their feet. The vortex forms within 1m of the user and is 1m wide. Abomination magic causes local dust, bacteria, and similar small loose materials to gather quickly forming a humanoid shape as it rises out of the vortex. The golem takes on a ghoulish appearance being 2m tall with rotting flesh making up the most of its body. Countless cracks run along the monster's skin that glow with a blue light. Its eyes and mouth produce hot blue flames. The abomination can move at the speed of a normal human and deal B-tier damage with its fists. Either upon destruction or at the user's command by snapping their fingers, the abomination will burst in a 2m explosion of blue flames dealing B-tier fire damage.  10 Magoi to activate | 5 Magoi to sustain.
  • Bludgeoning - This wand uniquely doubles as a club and will deal A-tier damage if used in melee attacks. The staff may be used with melee class abilities as if it were a club as well.

“He-hey, Rima is that you?” A soft and familiar voice would call out from towards the back.

The purple-haired girl jumped upon hearing this, feeling a bit startled by someone knowing her name. She would take a gander at the small group behind her, looking to see if she could if she could find who had called for her. Upon further investigation, she would finally notice the adorable white-haired maiden hunkering down in the back. It was Biyu, the village chieftain's daughter.  "Biyu?” Rima would say, feeling a bit surprised she hadn’t noticed her earlier, when she was releasing everyone from their cells. The girl had seemingly gotten more pale since the last time they had met. Which clearly wasn’t a good thing, considering the current situation they were in.

“Oh man, I’m so glad to see you..” Biyu said nervously, rushing over towards Rima. As the fragile woman made her way through the crowd of sickly-looking people, she herself would be forced to take a moment to herself. Stopping in her tracks, Biyu would begin coughing and wheezing into her right elbow.

A cold sweat would begin to form on the back of Rima’s neck; as she kept her vision locked on the white-haired maiden now standing before her. “Come, I’m not a doctor but I might be able to help with that cough..” Rima would say in a gentle tone, reaching her hand out towards the girl.

Biyu would lift her head up in response of the magician’s soothing voice, her face seemingly filled with shame. It was an odd expression, but as soon as Rima saw the fresh black stain upon the girl’s white dress; she understood. She had to take action immediately, so she wouldn’t become like the others.

The magician would begin reaching for her Headless Caster, the wand that was being held at her side. As she slipped it out from the ribbon tied around it, Rima would place her magic catalyst upon Biyu’s chest. A faint purple light would begin to surround the wand, as Rima would attempt to heal the chieftain's daughter with Aistieadatan Daeifa.

“So, I’m guessing you’re the one who got kidnapped tonight, huh?” Rima would say in a sad tone of voice, feeling a bit guilty because of it. If she had been more aware during her post, she might have been able to stop this from happening in the first place.

“Y-yeah, but don’t beat yourself up because of it! It wasn’t your fault..that person, they came from the opposite side of the village. You wouldn’t have been able to keep an eye out there, we just had you guarding the wrong entrance..” Biyu would say, her face regaining a bit of color in it. The tears leaking from her eyes seemed genuine, though the smile upon her pink lips did not.

Lowering her Headless Caster, Rima would let out an exhausted sigh. “Do you have any idea where that masked guy even went? Any of you?” The magician would first question Biyu, and then everyone directly behind her. There would be no response, not even from elder’s daughter. As Rima thought about it more, it seemed quite odd that everyone else seemed to be to stay quiet during their conversation. They all seemed completely out of it, as if they were nothing but walking corpses. Even the first girl she had rescued, the one who had been acting seriously ill in her cell. Only Biyu seemed to be acting normal, despite Rima knowing she had been “infected” as well.

“I guess that’s a definite no then. Anyways, let’s get you guys home.” The magician said, taking Biyu by the hand before heading towards the ladder.

It wasn't a very easy task, but Rima had finally managed to get everyone completely up the ladder. About three of them in total, including Biyu weren't very difficult to help up. They all still seemed to be in a somewhat normal state, despite Biyu being the only talkative one out of the whole bunch. However, the other five, their conditions only seemed to worsen by the second. It was evident that whatever this black liquid inside of them was, it was literally tearing their insides apart. As Rima tried to take a closer look, it was almost as if their skin was actually moving on it's own. Like the liquid was somehow alive...

"Alright, we need to get a move on. We've got a ways to walk, is there anyone here that doesn't think they'll be able to make it on their own?" Rima would ask, knowing fully well that they would continue to stay quiet. Letting out another sigh, she'd turn towards Biyu once again. "How are you holding up?" She'd ask, reaching her delicate hand out towards the girl's pale face. As soon as her hand reached the girl's face though, things would begin taking a turn for the worse.

Startling both Rima and Biyu, a duo of synchronized screams suddenly came from behind them. Biyu would begin to back away immediately, removing herself away from the magician's grasp. As for Rima, she'd turn around as if she had been anticipating something of the sort, and go to grab her Headless Caster placed at her side. Something was horribly wrong with the site she was forced to witness.

Not one, but two of the women she had rescued were both clasping their faces in horror. The whites of their eyes had seemingly turned pitch black, and that same horrible black liquid was making its way out of their open mouths. However, this time it wasn't just a simple stream like its always been. It seemed to spike and jump, as if it was trying to exit their body. It was horrifying, yet for some reason...incredibly interesting to watch.

As if the women were possessed by some malevolent force, they lunged out towards Rima in a frontal assault. Despite Rima’s reaction being slightly delayed to this, she was still capable of moving out of the way in time. However, this did not stop them from going after their true target, Biyu.

Quickly realizing this, Rima would try her best to follow up on them. Her first course of action would be to send a simple command to the rukh, causing her feet to lift up off the ground. Now in flight, Rima would quickly close the distance between her and the newly-found enemies in order to try and save her friend. As she closed in behind one of them, she’d take her Headless Caster and slam it into the back of their skull, splattering some of the woman’s black blood on her face.

As the crazed woman went tumbling to the ground, Rima would make an attempt to stop the other one as well. However, blinded by the woman's blood, she was forced to take a moment to wipe it away from her eyes.

"Biyu, try to get away from here!" Rima would yell out, still unable to focus her eyesight. Why were they so focused in on Biyu? Wasn't she already infected by this weird black blood stuff? If so...then why in the world did they want her so badly? Things weren't adding up.

Finally rubbing the blackened blood from her vision, Rima takes the initiative and continues her chase after the two women. This time though, there is no room left for her to be a slacker. She immediately begins to increase her magoi output in order to reach her maximum flight potential.

“What’s wrong with you, just leave me alone!” Biyu would scream out, tears rolling down her pale face. The poor girl was absolutely confused by what was going on, especially because this woman in specific was who she had been talking to most of tonight. While they weren’t exactly close acquaintances in the village, they had started to actually get to know each other while captured. For her to suddenly turn like this though...it was very troubling for Biyu to process.

After a good minute of being chased after, Biyu’s lower half would begin to completely give out. Her body would suddenly just stop working, her face crashing into the dirt that was beneath her feet at one time. As this happened, images of the girl’s life would begin flashing before her eyes. Was this how she went out? Killed off by someone from her own village, who happened to be under control by some malevolent force? To simply put it, this was not how she expected to leave this mortal plain.

"C-Come on...we grew up in the s-same village! Snap to your senses, Yu. You d-don't want to do this..."

“Leave her alone, dammit!” Rima would scream out, her body angeled in a torpedo-like motion as she flew. She was going as fast as the rukh would let her, yet as Biyu and the woman came into view, she could tell that she was too late. The woman seemed to have Biyu in a firm grasp, her clawed hand wrapped around the girl’s throat as the horrible black liquid would trail down into her agape mouth.

Rima’s anger had begun to spiral out of control, many emotions were now clouding her judgement. The sickly rukh she did her best to fight against were now flocking around her body, buzzing like insects as they danced to the rhythm of her breaking heart. She didn’t want Biyu to die, or to become like them. It was unfair, simply unfair. Of course Rima hadn’t known Biyu for very long, but there was still something special about her. Something that made Rima feel like she deserved to be protected.

As Rima started to close in on them, she would raise her Headless Caster once again, slamming the thick metal end directly into the enemy’s skull. The woman’s body would immediately ragdoll away from Biyu, violently flopping onto the ground further away. She was finally dead, no longer a threat to anyone.

As soon as the club had made contact, Rima did her best to slow down and take a landing. She would immediately dart back to where Biyu had been assaulted, quickly moving the girl’s limp body into her arms.

As their fleshed touched together, Rima would automatically notice how low Biyu’s body temperature seemed to be. Not only that, but also how her skin seemed to wriggle and writhe upon touch. Multiple black veins were now placed throughout her body, all moving in an unnatural snake-like manner. The sight alone was enough to make Rima ill. Just what the hell was this stuff?

“B-Biyu, please tell me you’re still in there.” Rima would whisper to the girl, gently digging her nails into her skin. She wanted nothing more than for Biyu to be okay, but the odds were clearly stacked against them. It was bad enough she was already infected, but now the process was pushed forward even more. Rima wanted to try figuring out a way to cleanse these girls, but how would she get a chance if they all change before they even get to town? The fact that this was Biyu made it even harder to cope, as she was the only one Rima actually cared about.

As Biyu’s eyes started to flutter open, the girl would immediately jump forward as a coughing fit took hold of her. Black veins wriggled under the skin of her throat as the liquid began to pour from her mouth. She simply pressed her two hands up against her mouth, letting the ooze drip through the cracks of her fingers.

The substance seemed to even be making it to her eyes, slowly cascading the white with pitch-black. She looked like she hadn’t gotten sleep in forever either, bearing two horribly black circles around them. Despite all of this, her gaze would continue to be focused on the magician whose arms were wrapped around her; Rima.

Biyu would do her best to say something to her, but only a faint crackle of her voice could be heard. Her breathing was beyond what one might consider “unstable” and her body would continue to tremble greatly. The feeling of this presence moving within her was unsettling and just utterly horrible.

“J-Just hold on, B-Biyu...I’ll try to heal you again.” Rima would say, trying to figure out where she had placed her wand. However, the faint tugging of her clothing was enough to draw her attention back to Biyu. Their saddened eyes locking once again, bringing an odd sense of tranquility to the scene.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” A deep and mysterious voice would hum from the shadows. The man who had been hiding himself from the very start had finally made his appearance, equipped with a small black wand that was tucked in his underarm.

His appearance was that of a handsome young man, bearing long raven-black hair that reached down past his waist side. His apparel consisted of nothing but blindingly white clothes, which not even the smallest speck of dirt could be seen on them. If one were to judge him on appearance alone, they would immediately deem him as a figure of great importance. Even the sheer aura that he let out was powerful and chilling, giving the four women standing before him goosebumps. This man was simply known by the name “Yamato”.

“So, what’s up with this whole thing? What exactly are you four girls harboring in those fragile little bodies of yours? I could smell the evil oozing from you for miles.” He would laugh, tilting his head as looked right at them. The women were obviously too far gone to save at this point. Their bodies had already started to change, shedding any humanity they might of once had. If one were to simply look into their eyes, they could see the abyss itself.

Their arms became twisted and black, now bearing a strange tree-like look to them. One of the girl’s sides had completely sunken in, revealing a sharp row of teeth embedded into her stomach. The sight was by far the most grotesque thing Yamato had ever seen. Despite him being very familiar with the work of dark magic, this was almost like a step beyond that. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so damn interested in it.

“I’ve never been the one to play the role of god, to decide who lives and who dies. However, it is clear to me that there is nothing that comes from your existence. Farewell, I do pray that at least your spirit was not tainted as well.” Yamato’s voice was blunt and chilling. As he spoke these words to the fallen, he had slowly shifted his wand towards their direction. The last thing any of them would see before it all ended; was a vibrant black light in the shape of a blade.
