ingyi kept an arm wrapped around Dullahan's neck, her eyes scanning the horizon as their squad patrolled. Their squad leader was set up in the middle of their diamond formation, the red-haired girl personally leading it from on top of her mount.

She had a good view from her spot on top of the Ferrum Carpa, with her respective brothers in arms watching her sides. Pheizhi himself kept an eye out on their flank to ensure that no ambush would come from behind. The woman-soldier kept a hand on Fujin as she rode, her ruby eyes peeled for danger.

And it indeed came knocking on their front doors in the form of a squadron of ten Yoshiro soldiers no doubt scouting for their military base. Their speed was impressive as the enemy group spotted their position, but Jingyi took no time to admire them. Turning over her shoulder, she quickly shouted to the rest of her group.

"Enemy soldiers- ten with a Ten Man Squad Leader!" She yelled, her holler alerting her fellow Gao soldiers to the arrival of trouble. With a confirming nod from Pheizhi, Jingyi nudged Dullahan to slow down his speed before disembarking her steed. Hitting the ground, Jingyi swiftly withdrew Fujin from its place at her belt. The rings clattered together loudly as Dullahan trotted around her, his head tossing as the beast keep a close eye on their approaching danger.

Inventory:

Name: Fujin
Tier: A-Tier
Type: One-handed Chokuto (sword)
Material: Tempered steel (blade); iron (rings, butt cap, and tsuba); red cloth (ito binding on the handle); scarlet tassel; golden menuki (handle ornament).
Appearance:
Jingyi's first sword and the brother blade to Rajin, it's light enough to allow its wielder to dual-wield them both at once. Fujin has a blade that's 100 cm long, along with a hilt that's 15 cm. The blade has four rings lining its non-sharp edge, with indentions along the straight, single-sharp edge. When swung, the rings along Fujin's side makes a loud, ringing noise as they clang together. There's an eye-catching red tassel attached to the end of the butt cap, and a golden menuki beneath the ito of the handle. The menuki is the Hou Clan's emblem. Fujin's guard is unique in appearance, having gone through a process that dyed the metal green, bamboo-like appearance. Unlike Rajin, Fujin lacks a sheath and has a special bit in the handle to allow it to be clipped to a belt or strap directly.

ingyi watched as the enemies approached with narrowed eyes. There was something akin to amusement in their red depths, a sly smile working across her face.

Pheizhi watched the girl with suspicious eyes. She stood as if she was the strongest soldier in the area, her body tense and free of any fear. She was arrogant, but there was something to her form that hinted that she had something to back up her ego. With her sword in one hand, Jingyi lifted her free one and beckoned with a single finger towards her foes. What was the girl thinking? The rest of her squad looked at her as if she was something crazy. Sure she was a good fighter in their mock practices but out here? The commander's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he watched Jingyi sheath her sword.

The redhead ignored the looks of her comrades as she stepped her left foot back, Fujin raising as she prepared herself for something. If she had looked behind her, Jingyi would've seen her commander opening his mouth to warn her to stand in line so they could better defend themselves against the incoming troops. There was also the chance of them having to retreat. They were a simple patrol-group, still inexperienced to the ways of true combat. But she shot forwards before he even had a chance to utter a word.

She was nothing but a red blur across the small field*. Pheizhi had seen Fanalis unable to run as fast as Jingyi presented herself at that very moment. The commander's eyes couldn't help but widen slightly at the sheer speed that she had moved. Even his own trained gaze couldn't see her as anything more than a red shadow moving at high speeds.

Jingyi was ecstatic that she was finally able to get a chance to prove herself to her squad. She was more than just a nameless soldier destined to be cannon fodder in one of Kou's wars. The feeling of the air through her air pushed the girl to run faster. She understood that the others weren't as strong or fast as she was, and if she could take down all these men, then why not? Such arrogant thoughts ran through the Hou's mind as the gap between her and her target rapidly closed.

Just as she was meters away, Jingyi came to a screeching halt. She nimbly turned on her heel, shifting her body so she shoulder-tackled the soldier to the ground with the full force of her strength. If anyone was close enough, they could hear the sound of fracturing bones and a gurgled yell. But Jingyi didn't stop there, no she had more work to do.

An adrenaline-filled grin spread across Jingyi's face, her red eyes widen with excitement as she ignored the man she had brutally knocked to the ground. While she was sweet as a peach when it came to matters off the battlefield, she wasn't going to allow blind mercy to keep her from her goals. Especially if it meant allowing a chance for her foes to reach her comrades.

Landing on her feet with the use of her perfect balance*, Jingyi turned and set her eyes upon her next flow. She swiftly unsheathed Fujin again, the family blade yearning to taste blood after being dormant for so long. Gripping her sword in both hands, Jingyi's smile widened as she bent her knees. Together, she and her prey step closer together, the rat moving into the range of the snake. Fujin was kept stretched to Jingyi's side as she prepared Mamushi: Cutting Grass. In one swift movement, she raised her weapon and brought it down upon her foe, piercing through his knee with the powerful blade*. His cry quickly drowned out by an even louder scream of pain as Jingyi used Fujin to slice through the tender joint. It was like a hot knife through butter, Jingyi thought as she abandoned the man to nurse his crippled leg.

Her next foe launched the offense against Jingyi first, a determined holler escaping his lips as he brought his sword down in a horizontal strike. But Jingyi, ever the cautious foe, smiled teasingly as she fell back into the Mamushi stance. Her sword slashed in front of her, catching his own blade and tossing it away as she practiced the Mamushi Gladiolus technique. Jingyi was quick to kick out her foot, catching her foe by the knee and knocking him to the ground. Before he had a chance to recover, the redhead moved over him and stabbed Fujin down through his soldier.

At that point, Jingyi realized that Pheizhi and the rest of her squad had arrived to deal with the remaining soldiers she hadn't taken out. Her leader went straight for the Squad Leader as her brother in arms took on their own foes. There were two more soldiers left in the red-haired menace's range, and Jingyi was completely fine if they were the last for her to compete against for that day.

Jingyi dashed to her next target, meeting him halfway as he charged her likewise. Stepping out of the way of a sword strike, Jingyi nimbly maneuvered herself around her foe. He realized his mistake too late as he felt the sting of Jingyi's blade raking across his back. With a gurgled cry, he met his fellow brothers in arm on the ground.

The last opponent was dispatched in a likewise manner. In a last-ditch effort to make up for his patrol's failure in capturing their squadron, the man lunged forwards and aimed to cut Jingyi down with a vertical slash. But the girl was too swift for his dainty sword, Jingyi easily stepping out of the way of his attack with her enhanced speed. With a raise of her sword, Jingyi swung downwards against his shoulder, the blow knocking the man to the ground.

Jingyi felt her chest heave as she stepped away from the mess she had caused, her ruby eyes narrowing. She could feel the last bits of excitement disappear from her system as the girl shook some of the dripping blood off Fujin. She remained standing there for a moment before whistling for Dullahan and sheathing her blade.

e almosted couldn't concentrate on the man he was trying to fight against, his eyes darting from Jingyi to the soldier in question. She was a whirlwind in battle, something that he hasn't seen for some time in the squadrons he was tasked with leading. She was good with a blade, far better than a novice, and far ahead than simply adept with it. How long had it taken her to train to such a proficiency?

Moments passed, and the commander had fallen at his feet. The ten man squad were officially defeated at that, and from the looks of it, Jingyi had defeated five on her own. The rest of the team mulled around looking unsure of both themselves and their blades, but the redhead just stood there with a look of pride at her abilities.

"Hou! Over here!" Pheizhi ordered as he sheathed his blade, the body of the rivaling commander lying either dead or unconscious at his feet. Turning to face the red-haired woman in question, he couldn't help but ask himself what was the earlier display of strength. With startling ease, she managed to dispatch their foes. What's more, her nimble body and high speeds allowed her to dodge any attacks she didn't block with her blade.

The men were far from her level in swordplay and skill; it was akin to a man being given the task of killing some bugs with fire. If he were, to be honest with himself, his interest in the Hou has peaked. While he had heard of her clan, it was a rather small one that wasn't well known in the military world. The only name of note to have been heard was the Fanged Hou, but he lingered among the bottom rungs of the military ladder. But, Jingyi? She had something with her. She was talented with a blade, but her strength didn't draw from just that, but training. It was obvious from the way she moved that she had taken the time to hone her skills. The thought of the lengths that Jingyi could reach if she continued to further herself stirred a feeling not too distant from excitement in his being.

"Yes, Squad Leader Yu?" Jingyi inquired, drawing the man from his thoughts as he looked down at the shorter girl. Pheizhi remained silent for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as he collected his thoughts and wits about him.

"I wish to speak to you once we arrive at back at base. Nothing all." At his curt words, the girl- no soldier, saluted to him and bowed before turning with alacrity on her heel. With proper form, she marched to Dullahan and patted the beast's snout before climbing upon his back to resume with their "mission". They still had a patrol to finish, and Pheizhi was glad to see that the normally rambunctious girl understood that one scouting group could mean multiple.
