ingyi stood motionlessly in front of Zhihao, her face schooled to lack any emotion as her mentor studied her. The redhead's hands were clasped behind her back as her red eyes stared straight ahead, her form almost perfect. At his bark of "unsheathe!", Jingyi quickly grabbed Fujin's hilt. The blade was unclipped from her belt, "unsheathing" it in one almost effortless motion. With nary a tremble in her hands, the girl held the blade in the air with both hands. Her feet naturally slid apart to shoulder-width distance, knees bending as she took on the familiar Mamushi Stance.

Once more, her mentor circled around her like a hungry predator. His eyes searched her stance for any imperfections, for any mistakes. Orange eyes narrowed, his face full of anger as it always was. Coming to a standstill in front of her, Zhihao stood meters away. The man was completely still for a moment before he unsheathed the pair of blades he always carried with him. His form was full of elegance, true mastership of his art. Light flashed off the masterly-crafted swords that the Kenshi wielded. Despite the great differences between them, if anyone were to peek, they would see the pinnacle of Hou strength.

"I believe that you are ready..." Zhiaho muttered in a breath as he fell into stance himself, a leg sliding forwards as he held forwards a blade. The other stood ready at his eyes as eyes full of emotion stared at Jingyi. "You are to come at me and fight at your best. Hold nothing back," the man almost hissed the word nothing, and Jingyi knew that he wouldn't hold back against her either.

Almost at once, the two lunged at each other. Jingyi slashed Fujin only for her mentor to block with one sword, the second extending to dig deep into her flesh. The blade was so polished and well-taken cared of, Jingyi would've admired her reflection in the metal if she had the time. With the dance-like grace her uncle had taught her, the redhead stepped out of the weapon's bite. She turned on her feet, extending Fujin and slashing it. Metal met metal as Zhihao blocked the attack, his hand not even trembling behind the force of the clash. His second sword quickly descended, forcing Jingyi to move her blade and catch it. She could feel vibrations travel up her arm, but she couldn't afford to concentrate on it.

Her uncle quickly slashed out with both swords, forcing Jingyi to jump back and drop down. Her legs bent as her knees hit the wooden floors of the dojo, her body not recognizing the jolt at the meeting. The swords flew overhead, cutting the very air that rested above her. The redhead didn't stay there long, her very soul pushing her body forwards in a lunge towards her master.

Zhihao was quick to react, stepping back with expertise and slashing his blades. Jingyi evaded to the side, a tip of her uncle's blade nicking the fabric that clothed her side. But the girl didn't stop to admire the swiftness of her mentor, instead focusing on continuing her barrage against him.

Before Zhihao could launch his attack, Jingyi stepped forwards. Her blade, held back by nothing, aimed to pierce straight into her uncle's side. With lightning reflexes, the man caught her blade between his own and begun to move. He lifted his arms, turning them about his body as he side stepped around his niece. Jingyi was dragged alongside him, her grip on Fujin loosening.

The man released his hold on Jingyi and raised his blades to cut his niece down, but Jingyi was always one who recovered quickly. Jumping out of the way of his attacks, Jingyi deflected the closest one away with Fujin's surface. Rings rang throughout the room as the redhead sharply turned her sword, trapping his in the indentions that ran along the side of her blade.

Something flashed in her mentor's eyes as she wrenched his blade away, the fine katana whirling through the air. But their fight continued regardless of the fact that her mentor lacked one sword. Zhihao flawlessly adapted, taking hold of his remaining katana with both hands as he shifted into the Mamushi Stance.

Then, together in a dance, master and student threw themselves at each other. Sword met sword as Jingyi weaved around her uncle, Zhihao likewise bobbing around his niece. It was a spectacle to be seen as they moved about one another. Her sword would strike out, only to be blocked by his. He would then spin, a familiar tassel blurring as he aimed to cut Jingyi down. Her retaliation would be her stabbing Fujin in his sword's path, almost effortlessly stopping his movement.

But then he would turn on his heel, lifting his sword and slashing it horizontally. With the swiftness of a rabbit, Jingyi would evade her master's attack, dropping below it and turning as she launched her own strike back against him. He would stop her's, and the redhead would adapt, seamlessly flowing into another attack.

The sound of metal striking metal ran echoed within the room, the sound of ringing accompanying close behind it. Zhihao and Jingyi crossed the room in a deadly dance of the waltz, each movement followed by a strike or a parry. Neither made ground on each other, a testament to both of their defenses.

But their spar would come to an end when Jingyi brought her sword down in a devastating attack, slicing deep into the flesh of Zhihao's arm. The man, long accustomed to the bite of a sword, just recoiled and pulled away without a sound. His free hand gripped at the wound as Jingyi lowered her blade, its tip dripping with scarlet blood.

"... Very good, Jingyi. You've done better than I had expected of you."

ingyi had passed her test against Zhihao with flying colors, proving herself to the soldier of Kou that she was actually worth his time. After their battle, Jingyi fretted about the state of her uncle, knowing that despite he could care less about any would she gave him, she still felt guilty. But as expected, the man just waved away her concerns for him and snapped, telling her that their training session was over for the day.

Knowing that he would only get even angrier if she disobeyed him, Jingyi sheathed Fujin and bowed. He simply "hn" at her and dismissed the girl, informing her as she disappeared through the door that their next training session together would be in a week from then and that he expected her to practice.

With a smile, the redhead assured the man that she would follow his orders to a T and arrive early next week. And that's what she did. When she arrived, the man simply sat her down and begun to demonstrate the form of Hou's dual wielding stance. It was a complicated one, one where the sword was almost a literal part of the user's arm. One wrong move would mean cutting deep into their own flesh, something that Zhihao would not want to hear about from Cheng if Jingyi managed to hurt herself.

But the girl, always eager to learn a new art from "The Fanged Hou", brushed off the dangers. Their training session devolved into Zhihao having her practice wielding Fujin with just a single hand. While the blade was designed for such use, Jingyi was unaccustomed to it. The sword felt unnaturally heavy in her grip, and the threat of her accidentally cutting herself was a present on.

But Zhihao didn't allow his niece to pause in their practice, instead ordering Jingyi to continue with her practice of just using Fujin with a lone hand. It was certainly a long session for the girl, and towards the end of the two hours, Zhihao allowed her to get a break and rest from the practice. Such a luxury was a rare one for Jingyi, and she was sure to thank her uncle for it.

month passed, and during that time frame, Jingyi became skilled with using Fujin single-handedly. She was able to slash, jab, cut, evade, and do everything else with the blade while just holding onto it with a single hand. It was great progress, and Jingyi was proud of herself for her ability to get down the technique as quickly as she did. Amazingly, Zhihao was just as proud of his niece. Unfortunately, if he was to ever raise another apprentice, they would have high bars to vault over.

Walking into the dojo, Jingyi knew in her bones that today was going to be the day her teacher finally allowed her to grip two swords in her hands. And man, did she love it when she was right. While the only weapon Zhihao allowed her to grip was a wooden practice sword, she was still right about getting two swords!

Her first foe to practice against was a stationary dummy, Zhihao standing not too far from her to watch her stance. With a wooden sword in her left hand and Fujin in her right, Jingyi took the stance that her mentor had taken up during her initial test.

Fujin extended protectively in front of her while she kept the wooden sword at her side, the redhead kept a leg slid out just as Zhihao did. Just as she was about to lunge forwards, she felt a whack against her elbow. The redhead's gaze shot to her master in surprise as he adjusted the height of her joint with his scabbard, the very tool he used to whack his student.

Jingyi smiled at the man, receiving a glare in return as he used his scabbard to move back her leg. Knowing better than to giggle or chuckle, the girl returned her attention back to the dummy and took a deep breath. Her knuckles turned white around the grip of her makeshift weapons as she dived forwards. Fujin crossed in front of her, its blade biting into the soft flesh of the dummy. As she moved her right hand, her left moved to attack with her second sword. But her form stumbled as she felt something hitting her knee, and Jingyi was forced to bite back a yelp.

Stumbling away from the dummy, Jingyi looked down to realize that she had whacked herself with the wooden sword. The girl heard a heavy sigh as Zhihao stepped forwards to move her back into stance and begun to lecture her about her mistake....

t took Jingyi longer than she wanted to admit to getting down the art of dual wielding. Certainly longer than a couple of weeks at least. But, what mattered was that she had finally gotten it. On what would prove the last day of her training in her advancement in the art of Kenjutsu, Jingyi was paired up against a rotational dummy.

Its arms stuck out threateningly as Jingyi unsheathed Fujin and a katana that Zhihao had given her for the occasion. Her fingers tightened around the handles, the feeling of both blades' menuki digging into the flesh of her palms. The girl allowed her ruby eyes to fall closed for a moment, concentrating on the weight of both swords. She adjusted her grips on them before opening her eyes, her gaze fixed on the dummy. A smirk spread across the redhead's face as she fell into stance. While it wasn't as familiar as the Mamushi, Jingyi was certain that if it need be, she could certainly pull off the Hou Dual Wield.

Tensing the muscles in her legs, Jingyi lunged forwards at her foe. Quick as the wind it cuts, Fujin slashed forwards. From shoulder to hip, she left a jagged cut in the plush flesh of the dummy. Jingyi didn't stop to admire her work as she turns on her heel, striking out with her left hand that wielded the katana. The blade left a horizontal cut across the target's side Jingyi noted as she weaved around to the back of the dummy. Her strikes still needed to be practiced, but the redhead managed to string together a series of attacks on the poor dummy's flesh.

By the time her deadly dance was finished, Jingyi felt her arms burn and her chest heavy. The same couldn't be said for her foe, with stuffing leaking from its multiple wounds. In the corner of her eye, the Hou could see the slight smile of approval that her master held.
