The scene was a calming one; situated in a wagon that rolled past hills of grassland and farmland. The skies were bright blue, the sun overhead but not scorching hot due to the pleasant breeze that waltzed through the area. There was neigh a cloud to sully the beauty of the sky, yet not even the environment could keep a lid on Merari.

If it weren't for the fact that there would be a witness, Merari was close to the metaphorical lid blowing off his pot. Despite his usual easiness to hide his emotions, Merari couldn't help but have a sour expression on his face. He hated The Plains. There were so desolate and lonely to him, not to mention the offensive amount of animals he was sent to deal with.

Being sent out every so often to deal with critters that could have been left to the town fool, it was maddening. Merari had plans he needed to figure out, spells to train, and a slough of other things he needed to wade through. The only reason he was attending the Academy was to become stronger, yet he couldn't even count how many times he had to ride on a wagon out of Magnostadt on his fingers anymore.

Peering over his shoulder, Merari watched the driver of the wagon steer the vehicle. He wore the garb of a holy man, fitting of their destination to some temple or another. At this point, Merari was used to groups of people. He had to deal with them at the Academy, and he had to deal with them in Magnostadt. There were a fact of life, especially if Merari was to ever achieve his "dreams". No doubt about it. But religious nutcases? They were a whole other beast, metaphorically speaking. He heard about how nosey they could be, and Merari felt strained enough as he was with Ariel.

It would take the cart with its cargo of supplies and Merari an additional couple hours before it reached its small chapel. Despite its age, which was rather apparent from just its look, it was a sturdy building. There was a bell that Merari later learned that rang daily, along with a stable and another building used as sleeping quarters.

It was while he was there did Merari met quite the peculiar man. He was a monk of the temple, yet he had the striking resemblance of a man from Kou. He had hair, long and black, and he always dressed in heavy robes. His name was apparently Yusha, and he was one of the men who had previously helped the temple defend itself. Unfortunately for Merari, however, was that it was proving too much for himself to fight.

Everything about the man was a straight-up mystery. He didn't talk often, and there was often a morose look to his eyes. He was a quiet man, and he always seemed to be in thought over something. Whenever Merari was forced to be around him, he always had the uncanny Deja Vu feeling that he recognized the man. It would be much later until he finally realized why he felt that way about Yusha.

Merari let the door behind him fall shut while he walked down the front steps of the temple. The sun was setting late as it usually did during summer, the edges of the sky turning yellow. The Magician, armed with Komori at his sides, stopped halfway down before sitting down. He moved his wand into his arms, cradling the lyre-like tool. As he waited for the coming bandit wave, the long-haired boy began to gently strum Komori's strings.

Watching unannounced was Yusha, his knuckles turning white around his khakkhara as he spotted the Magician's staff. With a dismissive shake of his head, the monk quietly stepped back and disappeared back into the doors of the temple. His footsteps were completely quiet as he walked, and his eyes were narrowed and full of morose.

Meanwhile, Merari continued to aimlessly play music into the air, unaware that a moment ago a figure was watching him. His fingers nimbly moved across the wand, plucking the chords in the tune of a lullaby. One hand rose to the neck of Komori, his fingers plugging two holes before Merari blew into the flute of the odd wand. A whimsical note was played and he continued with the lullaby.

It was only until did he spot a group advancing in the distance did the music pause. Merari laid Komori completely down in his lap as he leaned forwards, peering at the group. From this distance, he could tell that they were the foretold bandits that he was sent to get rid of.

The Green Magician gracefully rose to his feet, one hand holding onto the neck of his wand as his other brushed some hair behind his ear. His ruby eyes came to a half-close as he watched the incoming group. 30 meters away. He got to the bottom of the steps, the grass squishy beneath his shoes. 25 meters away. They were close to pick out their measly daggers and the sneers on their faces, Merari noticed as he walked forwards. 20 meters away. Merari came to a halt and raised Komori and once more he strum the wand's strings, playing an alternating tune. 15 meters.

"Canon!"

He called as he pointed Komori's "teeth" at the nearest bandit, the Sound Rukh that was previously vibrating around him shooting off as a concentrated sound wave. A loud bang went off, echoing in the small clearing as the bandit was knocked clear off his feet by the spell.

As the rest of the bandits neared, Merari begun to play a different tune on Komori. It was a lively one that got the Rukh around him to jump around and vibrate as the manipulated the sound waves. 10 meters away, Merari flipped around his wand and pointed it at the closest one once more.

"Gilliard."

At his quietly muttered order, once again the Rukh shot forwards, slamming into Merari's target and pushing him to the floor. The rest of his comrades ran around him, however, coming ever closer to Merari.

"Iesar."

He ushered those words as he pointed Komori at the nearest bandit, the wand waving as the Rukh around him manipulated the wind. A moment later a rush of wind blew into a small tornado, trapping the bandit in its winds as it slashed at his clothes. He yelled at he was caught, trying to cover his face with his arms to prevent the precious bits from getting damaged. And just as quick as the winds swelled, they disappeared, allowing the once trapped foe to drop down to his knees.

But then the two final bandits rushed upon Merari, grim looks on their faces as the one closest to the Green Magician prepared to release a Flurry of Strikes. Feeling the Rukh quell, Merari allowed his Borg to form, the golden shield withstanding the only two strikes that connected.

But now they were trapped much too close, Merari thought as his Borg shattered. Before his foes could come any closer, the long-haired boy thrust out Komori and shouted.

"Alswnar!"

An ear-bursting wave of sonar energy pulsed out from all around Merari, the spell catching both foes and throwing them back. He could hear them yelling in pain as Alswnar fractured bones in their body due to the intense vibrations of sound.

With a round of groans, the final two bandits collapsed down, unable to continue their fight. Stashing Komori away, Merari glanced towards the temple to see some of its occupants anxiously watching him. Among them was a short man with long, black hair, his eyes basically scanning Merari.
