Merari felt his body rattle around as he sat on the back of a farmer's cart, something that did not please him at all. Glumly staring out from his spot, all the Magician could spot was farmland. Hopefully, for this job, he wouldn't be forced to trek through all of it to get rid of some stupid crows.
He closed his ruby eyes, his knees drawing up to his chest as Merari wrapped his arms around his legs. Leaning his head forwards, the Magician waited for the ride to the country to be over. Why did the Academy even have to send him out here to beat some dumb birds? That sounded like a job for some Fourth or Fifth Kodor student, not him! He had better things to do with his time. At least the job would be paying well. If he wanted to continue with his plans he would need haung, after all.
"Oi, boy!" A voice from the front called, his words followed by a smack of his reins as he stopped the cart. His oxen bellowed and stomped their hooves as Merari quickly hopped to his feet. Sliding out of the back of the cart, the Magician eagerly walked around to the front and peered at the farmer who drove him here.
"The farm ya want is down yonder. I gotta skeddadle to my own ranch, so I'll be leavin' ya here. Mrs. Levila can tell ya about the job, and I dun think I gotta tell ya, but Ah well. Mind yaself about the crops, I don't fancy the thought but thay well charge ya if you destroy somethang," The farmer warned, tipping up his straw hat. Bidding their goodbyes, Merari walked to the side of the road and watched as his ride turned around and started to head back.
Turning back around, he looked at the farm that he was to go to. It wasn't much of a long walk, and luckily for him, the sun wasn't burning too hot down upon his back. So, with that, Merari stuck his hands into his pockets and started walking down the road. Beneath his feet, he could hear and feel the gravel crunch, and upon looking down he spotted a rather sizeable piece of rock. Kicking it forwards with his foot, Merari's red eyes watched as it skittered away. As he walked, he came near the rock again before kicking it forwards again.
It was in this way did Merari entertain himself until he finally reached the far. Abandoning the rock, the Magician instead walked to the front door of a building that resembled a house. Rapping his fist against the door, he waited for someone to answer.
Moments later, a woman wearing a scarf around her head and dressed in a simple dress opened the door. She had a polite smile as she nodded her head and allowed Merari inside. She kept him in the living room for a couple minutes as she explained the scenario about the crows. Apparently, some rather big birds had moved into the fields, stealing their crops and hurting those who try to come close. The reason why the Academy had even agreed to send a student out to the Great Plains to deal with the problem was that not only were the crows becoming a pest to multiple other farmers, but they had already hospitalized one man. They rather send a student down to the farms to get rid fo the crows rather than risk them becoming a bigger problem than they already were.
"Now, I know that ya're gonna be paid, but it'll come after the crows are gone, you hear? It's not much, but it's the amount that the Academy requested for yar pay," the wife explained with a nod of her head, her blond curls jumping as she did. With that, she led Merari back out and bid him a good day before closing the door. She apparently had enough trust that he wouldn't hurt their crops further.
With a soft sigh, Merari followed a path that the woman had mentioned to him earlier. Just like she explained, the narrow dirt road led him right to the fields where the crows should be residing within.
Climbing over a wooden fence meant to keep out land critters, Merari landed on the other side with a huff. Looking down at his feet, he could easily spot the above-ground roots of the pumpkin patch he had stumbled upon. Now he had two options: to go back and find another entrance point or walk carefully along the growth.
Pulling up his robes to better see his feet, Merari began to walk towards the other end of the patch, careful to not accidentally step on something. Due to a number of roots that covered the ground, the Magician had trouble finding a safe place to put his foot down upon. But, eventually, he found his way out and onto the bare dirt.
Dropping the fabric in his hands, Merari peered around before raising his head. In the close distance, he could spot three black figures watching in the air dip down towards what seemed to be a strawberry patch. Picking his robes back up, Merari began to wade carefully through different patches of foods to reach his targets.
Half way there the crows spotted him, and with loud squawks and cries, they took to the air. One of them held a dark object in their menacing talons as the grew near to Merari.
Pulling out Komori, Merari saw the incoming projectile too late. With a large crack, it impacted his Borg, the Magician safely inside recoiling back in surprise. Stepping a step behind him, Merari frown faintly as he faced the crows. It would appear that one of the Strong Feet had thrown the rather sizeable rock at him.
Holding out his wand, he waved Komori around in a circular way. With a cry of "Iesar!" a large tornado roared to life. Its winds swirled around, with two of the four crows flying straight into its path. With avian screams, the razor winds of the spell cut into them, their bodies dropping once the spell faded.
The two remaining birds watched their comrades drop before they dived towards Merari, aiming to get him with their Beak Attack. Unfortunately for them, they flew right into his range as Merari thrust out his wand, a cry of "Alswnar!" escaping his throat.
The Sound Rukh went and did their thing, and in moments a sound wave pulsed outwards all around Merari, hitting both of the birds. Their bodies, too weak to tank the spell and their bones too brittle in the face of the sonar pulse, fell to the ground. It would seem that his job was over.
Sheathing Komori, Merari walked around as he checked the birds, picking the crows up by their feet. He wouldn't be surprised if they demanded proof from him, so he may as well bring the birds.
