Merari dragged a barstool to one of the shadowed corners of the Academy's kitchen before plopping himself onto it. Crossing his ankles, the Magician laid Komori across his lap as he kept an eye out in the darkened room.

"Lucky" for him, Merari was chosen to help stop the thief that had been causing a headache for people across Magnostadt. It was so ridiculous, someone going around and stealing utensils from people. They were obviously not idiots, seeing how they upgraded from normal citizens to targeting the academy and have gone uncaught till now. But still, why utensils? Was there some sort of market for them? It puzzled Merari about why someone would bother stealing knives, forks, and spoons instead of something of value.

He could understand why the academy would assign one of their... newbie Magicians, seeing how this could be a valuable "lesson" on how to apply magic to real life "battles", but still, couldn't there have been some other method to catch them that wouldn't be so bothersome.

Scratching the back of his neck with a hand, Merari sighed softly to himself when he heard something. Pausing immediately, the Magician narrowed his eyes as he strained his ears.

There! The creak of a nearby door. Turning his head, Merari ducked down from his spot in the corner and spotted a door opening a creak.

Grabbing Komori, Merari dropped from his stool and crouched down. Keeping low, the Magician crawled so he was hiding by one of the many counters in the kitchen. Peeking out from around the counter, he spotted what seemed to be a teenager not much older than himself. The thief peered around, but in the dark and not thinking to look low, he, luckily for Merari, didn't spot the hiding Magician.

As the thief started to sneak to some other counters, his back turned to Merari, the boy then crept forwards. He was careful to not make a sound and was equally careful to make sure to keep Komori away from the ground or anything else that he could accidentally bang the staff on.

Suddenly, Merari quickly rose to his feet and quickly strummed three notes on the staff. The noise alerted the thief who whirled around upon hearing him, but it was too late. With a sweeping wave of Komori, Merari shouted, "Allegro!" Just as the thief was about to launch Fork Fall, the sound wave crashed into him and knocked him over. His head hit the counter and with a daze, he slumped down.

During the commotion, Merari didn't hear a door slipping over and two more thieves sneaking into the kitchen. And during his walk towards the downed teenager, he didn't hear one of them rush at him.

Merari only turned around when he heard someone grunt, and his ruby eyes widened in surprise. Spoons whacked his cheek, whipping his head to the side and causing Merari to stumble back as the thief finished Spoon Slam.

Grabbing a counter, Merari pulled himself away from another attack from the thief. He raised Komori in his free hand as the second thief came upon him. Knives Noted was attempted upon Merari, but this time he was ready. His Borg quickly flashed, the knives striking the barrier and bouncing off. In another flash, the Borg cracked, seeing how it had taken the most abuse it could have taken.

But that didn't matter since Merari's Borg had given him enough time to bite back at his attackers. His fingers strummed Komori's strings and before the thief could lunge at him once more, Merari pointed the staff at him.

"Gilliard!" He shouted, and in a rush, the Sound Rukh slammed into the thief. It knocked the teenager over, and he fell down and didn't get up.

Meanwhile, the second thief tried to sneak back around to get to Merari, but luckily for the Magician, he spotted him. He raised Komori in response and called, "Drone!"

He then lowered the staff and quickly played the most boring tune he knew. Immediately after a low buzzing could be heard, and the thief dropped down to his knees as the buzzing grew louder and burst his eardrums.

"Well, that's over with, now..." Merari told himself with a huff as he lowered Komori once more before putting it away. He rubbed his cheek with the back of his hand before turning to get a superior to deal with the troublesome teenagers.
