Vardreth noted that the man before him was rather stoic. The initial call for Vardreth to arrive at the table made him out to be a rather social individual, however when Vardreth sat down to speak to the man it seemed as if there was nothing to speak of between the two. Hmmm. Was there an ulterior motive to inviting me over, perhaps? Somebody he didn't want me to see? No, more likely he didn't want to see somebody else. Either way, I intend to enjoy myself. Setting aside the Fanalis' indifference, Vardreth called for another drink and made a special request of the waitress, passing along a few gold coins to the woman.
A short while later, as Vardreth was drinking past the first jug of wine, a small case was brought to the table. Vardreth's eyes rose in surprise, looking back towards the waitress sardonically. "That was rather fast." Indeed, his expectations were surpassed at the efficiency of fulfilling his request.
"The owner is a fan of it, so he has a set he is willing to lend the esteemed guests here to play." She nodded to the group and placed a number of tiles onto the table. The two guardsman were surprised as well, immediately breaking into a smile as they hurriedly rushed their meals. The waitress bowed and left the four at the table to their own devices.
It was as if the two were hippos, as the speed at which they finished dinner was quite fast. "Captain, you don't gamble, do you?" The two had a gleam in their eyes, flashing each other a sly look with no attempt to hide it at all.
"If I didn't, would I have them bring this out?" As he suspected, his soldiers definitely knew their gambling games. He supposed it had a lot to do with the money they had, and the lack of time to really go out and spend it. Looking over at Caelus, Vardreth spoke again. "Care for a go? It's Mahjong, if you know how to play." Vardreth set aside a few tiles, only adding them back into the mix if Caelus decided to join, and the two guards began to 'shuffle' the tiles together with Vardreth. All of the tiles, they ensured, were face down while doing so. They all had a sharp eye on one another, and Caelus had the opportunity to join. "We are using Riichi rules, if you decide to join. Sanma variant of Riichi, no Flowers, North Wind nor bamboos of two through eight, if you're out but care to observe." Sanma was a variant that was a 3 player Mahjong, however Vardreth didn't care much for it. Instead, he choose to incorporate the removal of tiles while retaining the overall standard of Riichi rules.
Just as they were about to get into the game a massive shaking occurred. The pieces fell, and Vardreth sighed. There was general concern among all those of his group at the table, though Vardreth himself seemed nonplussed regarding the situation. Bringing the pieces back up from the ground, Vardreth cleared his throat. "Well, I suppose I had better go check on my soldiers. Fun time is over, you two." With that being said, Vardreth returned the game to the proprietor and left with the soldiers.
