The ash-haired boy got up from his seat on a bench, his hands smoothing out the Academy black robes that he wore. His book, a tome on the types of magic, laid open besides him. Komori laid resting against a leg of the bench, which he promptly grabbed by the neck before getting the book.
Squeak, squeak.
Merari paused as he heard shuffling and telltale noises of a rodent. Glancing around the garden, his red eyes quickly picked out the naked tail of a rat. The Magician brushed some hair out of his eyes with a hand as he set the tome down.
'Didn't one of the Professors mention a rat problem? I don't think it'll hurt too much if I got rid of a couple of them.'
With that thought in mind, Merari raised Komori and strung three of the fingers. The music quickly caught the rat's attention, though the rodent just chattered at him before wandering closer. His note-playing was quickly followed by Merari flipping Komori around and grabbing it by the neck once more before he gave the staff a wave.
"Adagio!" He uttered, focusing his Magoi into the spell. Suddenly, the rat began to stumble and slow as Adagio overcame it. It shook its head as it unhappily yawned in drowsiness. The rodent gave a bark before starting to clamber towards Merari, its tail dragging on the grass.
Merari, watching the incoming "enemy", took a step back as he raised Komori, the bottom teeth pointing at the ceiling of the library. From his lips he uttered, "Drone," before flipping the staff around and starting to play a boring melody with Komori's strings.
In the area around the approaching rodent and Merari, a low buzz began to rumble, gradually growing louder before becoming a short, burst of buzzing energy that targeted the rodent, bursting its tiny ears. The rat squeaked in pain as it stumbled back, its head whipping back in forth before it turned around. The rat then fell, the rather low-leveled spell finishing off the pest.
While Merari was focusing on his "enemy", he didn't notice another rodent until he felt a Stinging Bite on his ankle. The Magician yelped in pain as he whipped around, stumbling back and swinging Komori.
The black furred rat easily jumped out of the way of the instrument, its teeth chattering as it charged towards Merari. In response, Merari fled farther away, his fingers strumming three notes on Komori. Whipping around, he quickly flipped the staff before waving it in a horizontal arc. In response, the Sound Rukh, urged by his Magoi, started to clash against one another and vibrate before collapsing in a sort of sonic pulse that pushed back against rat, flinging it back away from Merari. The spell didn't only push the rodent away from Merari, but the small boom of the sound wave luckily knocked it out as well.
Merari sighed in relief as he wiped his forehead, glad to have gotten rid of the second rat. Putting his arm down, Merari started to head back. In the corner of his eye, he spotted an incoming rat who had noticed the earlier commotion.
Turning on his heel, Merari quickly raised Komori as his eyes narrowed. Instead of strumming the strings, he used the flute part of the staff, his fingers pressing over the holes as he played three notes. The music was quickly followed by Komori being pointed at the encroaching rat as Merari called, "Gilliard!"
In response, the rukh around him, energized by the playful burst of music, rushed forwards and slammed into the rat. With a squeak, it stumbled back before collapsing. It would seem the rats weren't big fans of music.
"What an annoyance," Merari thought to himself as he pursed his lips, his walk limped as he headed towards the bench. Reaching down to grab the book, he spotted a rat's nose peeking out from some bushes. With a dragged out sigh and a frown, Merari stepped back and started to play a melody on Komori. It was simple, made of three notes played at different speeds. The music enticed the rat to burst out of the bushes, though it would prove to be an unfortunate move for the rodent.
Merari quickly pointed Komori at the rat, a cry of "Canon!" escaping his lips. The spell energized the surrounding Rukh as they shot out in a concentrated sound wave that slammed into the rat. If the previous spells were too much for his other foes, then Canon was the equivalent of a patty going through the 7th Kodor.
