Julius had trained for this day. For a single week, he trained himself with swordplay. He’d been good friends with the blacksmith of town, who served as a simple mentor to tap into Julius’ forgotten skills. The blacksmith owed the pirate a favor, he also sort of liked having Virgil around. He always seemed to bring a smile upon people’s faces. He practiced with swords until he’d beaten the blacksmith’s son. In which he knew he was ready for bigger fish.
Julius, believed himself to be ready. He was determined to do this, to begin the very first step of becoming stronger. This first step had been the famous Reim Colosseum. A couple seconds ago, he’d been waiting behind a gate. Now, he basked within the bright sunlight from the sky. He’d been prepared to fight anyone or anything that day. The pirate had been tired of day to day jobs. He’d been constantly working, and he wanted to let loose, use his skills that he’s acquired over the years. The day before, he trained until he passed out, today was his day of reckoning. Today was the day he’d hear the people cheer for him instead of walking past him and grunting. Before the match-up, he’d walked around the marketplace, spreading word of how he was going to fight within the arena. The people that knew him well gave him worried looks, and the people he’d skimmed past pat his back and gave him faces of excitement. He wanted to make the townspeople of Reim proud, regardless of him not knowing them. Some even sat in the crowd, cheering upon the beloved pirate.
Julius would become an icon within Reim that day. All he had to do was strike down his opponent. Hopefully they would go down easy, he didn’t want to make this longer than he had to. The brightness of the sun blocked his view of the opponent. His eyes quickly readjusted however, and upon seeing his opponent, he looked shocked.
“A woman..?” Julius questioned to himself, jaw nearly hitting the floor. It was in his code to never strike down a defenseless woman. She stood there with two fans and a skirt, acting as if this match wasn’t happening. This must be a trick, the looks were all an act she must be putting on. Those fans upon closer inspection didn’t look too fragile after all. She looks beautiful sure, but Julius had to question as to why was she wearing Kou garb and using fans rather than a robe and a sword? These questions only lead confusion, yet he wanted to stay focused, so with a quick shake of the head, they dispersed.
The girl already had her “weapons” drawn, but Julius had to question how dangerous a simple fan could be, bladed or not. Julius crossed his arms, each reaching for the swords on his belt; both on opposite ends. With a quick thrust, each came loose. One had been a common cutlass, which didn’t look special in any way. However, his other sword looked as if it’d been made with pure lava. The crowd, and more specifically, the townsfolk went wild upon seeing the sailor’s weapons.
“Surrender or fall madam, I don’t like striking down pretty women,” Julius threatened, as the grip upon his swords tightened. He wasn’t gonna let a pretty face ruin him.
Giana Antonius, the pirate’s opponent merely pulled a fan up to cover the bottom half of her face and gave the man a giggle. “Words don’t kill, so die,” she yelled from across the arena. Julius didn’t quite catch that, but the girl was already on the move. She moved fast to flick both her wrists at Julius. The fans cut through the air as they hurtled straight for the pirate. Julius foreseeing the sudden attack, dodged to the right. One of the bladed fans from the Rising Moon had hit him in the calf, only slightly, it didn’t hurt as bad as he thought it would. Giana quickly pulled a second pair of fans from her dress right after and unfolded them to expose their beauty.
Julius growled as he charged the girl with great speeds that even surprised her. His enhanced speeds came in handy sometimes. He had the element of surprise and quickly caught her in place. He raised a sword and performed a flurry. She had blocked the first blade, that’d come from the right, with a fan. However, he scaled the move and attacked from the left, which she also blocked. However, Julius’ rapid attacks from both the left and right ended up scaling the ability seven whole times. She only blocked the lavacore sword however, and ended up taking various cuts from the shabby cutlass, weakening her movement speed as he’d aimed for her legs so he could chase her if she decided to run.
Eventually, Giana couldn’t block anymore strikes from the lavacore sword as she was, the fans had slowly creased inwards at the power from the attacks. Julius was prepared to finish her off with a critical strike, he’d stopped his flurry and jumped into the air with his two swords both behind his head. Yet, when Giana saw an opening upon the flurry stopping, she used Resting Moon and blocked all incoming skills and basic attacks he threw at her for a couple seconds, including the critical strike. The pirate jumped back a few meters, and got into a defensive stance, ready for the woman’s next attack.
The woman was quick to recover from Julius’ onslaught, after she finished up the Resting moon. She attempted to dash towards Julius, but ended up tripping and falling due to her legs being cut. She didn’t truly feel the pain until she tried to move. She shrieked in pain. The people in the crowd called for her death. She was too weak to move, and therefore with another leap from Julius, he performed yet another critical strike which ended his opponents life.
The tournament cheered for Julius’ victory. Reim had a newfound respect for the pirate. Julius was a paid and happy man.. he was also incredibly tired.
