Opponent:

Caelus VS. Rufi BNhIskI
Enemy Name: Rufi
Rank: C
Needed damage to take down: 3 C-tier
Abilities: This swift fighter moves at a base speed of 7m/s and 10m/s when sprinting. He carries an old but reliable sword loaned out by the coliseum capable of dealing C-tier cutting damage each blow. He is known for being an evasive counter fighter and can anticipate incoming attack trajectories with his years of skill and experience.

Steadfast Hold ~ A firm defensive stance followed by a striking movement made with the user's shield at 15m/s. This strike aims to clash with an incoming attack before batting it away parrying its trajectory safely away from the user. Capable of blocking up to 1 B-tier ability within a 3m range.

Sliding Board ~ The user anticipates an incoming attack and raises their shield to block it. The user then turns the shield and moves behind it as they allow the attack to slide off the shield harmlessly. The movement to position the shield occurs at a speed of 10m/s and it can be used within a 3m range blocking up to 1 C-tier ability.

Forward Cleave ~ The user leaps forwards up to 10m away from his starting position and slashes violently with his sword in a dowards blow. The slash moves at a speed of 15m/s and the leap 10m/s. If the strike succeeds it will do B-tier cutting damage.

Caelus sat in the holding area, gliding Ripple over a whetstone while he waited for Telleus to arrive.  The last match against Giana had bolstered his confidence quite a bit, but there was always a little tension before a fight.  At least Telleus is good at gathering information.  It helps to know what i'm up against before heading out there.  Caelus picked up Ripple to examine the edge, smiling at his handiwork.  There was something calming about sharpening a sword.  The gentle motion of the stone, the grind of the steel, the repetitive motion.  It was an excellent way to focus the mind.

The door to the holding area opened to reveal Telleus at last, walking in holding... "Telleus, is that a rat?"  Telleus smiled, holding the long eared rodent up for Caelus to see.  "He's cute, isn't he?  I bought him from a Heliohaptan Merchant.  His name is Atem!"  Caelus looked at the pair with an awkward smile.  Telleus was always an eccentric, but purchasing a foreign rat was a little much even for him.  "So did you bring me anything useful, or is show and tell all i get?"  Telleus handed Caelus a sheet with some notes written on it, and a name written on the top that Caelus recognized immediately.  "Rufi.  They want me to fight Rufi."  Telleus was quick to respond, "Look, its a big fight, there's a lot of money involved, and people love to see new talent fight strong opponents.  And he might be well known, but i also know that they want these fights to make money.  And that means you do have a solid chance of beating him.  If you didn't, there would be no betting, and therefore no fight.  Look, he's a sword and shield user, and he wears no armor.  He's going to match your speed, but you can take advantage of his lack of defense if you can get past the shield.  Caelus wasn't so sure.  Rufi was known for his ferocity and strong counter-attacks, as well as a sharp mind for tactics.  He was lightweight and fast, but his shield provided more than enough defense.  If i could somehow get rid of his shield...

The horn blew for the fighters to enter the arena, and Telleus gave Caelus one last piece of advice before leaving.  "He's old, Caelus.  Draw the battle out, and wait for him to come to you."  Caelus nodded, before entering the tiled arena floor.  Rufi stood opposite him, about fifty meters away, clad in only his loin cloth, shield and sword drawn.  He had painted his face like a warrior of ancient times, streaks of blue and red crossing his fierce expression.  Caelus drew Ripple, and readied his stance.  The crowd cheered, mixed cries of Rufi and Caelus among them.  Then the horn blew again.

The crowd roared as they dashed towards each other.  Rufi ran with his shield in front, sword held low, read to engage.  Caelus saw this, and knew a counter attack would be on the way if he swung into the clash.  Instead, Caelus feinted at the last moment, heading right instead of left, around Rufi's back.  He was quick to respond, pivoting on his back leg, and swinging his shield to deflect Ripple.  Caelus followed suit, pushing his advantage and trying to keep Rufi off balance, this time heading left back towards Rufi's shield arm.  Rufi dropped to the ground, and rolled away, springing back up by using his shield to push off the floor.  They clashed twice more, Ripple moving like water in arcs from blow to blow, while Rufi used only the minimum effort to block or evade   In doing this Caelus realized that Rufi was well aware of his age and endurance.  As an experienced fighter, he knew his limits perfectly.  He could keep this pace up for hours if need be, leaving Caelus exhausted by the end.

They disengaged, Caelus breathing heavily but not weakened by the exertion.  Rufi seemed ready for more, though his breathing too had quickened.  There has to be something.  Some area i'm not looking at.  He didn't have much time to think, as Rufi moved forward with his sword resting atop his shield.  But in the seconds before Rufi attacked, it finally struck Caelus.  Rufi never used his sword to block attacks.  It was purely an offensive tool in his hands.  Caelus' earlier thoughts were right, if he could get the shield away from Rufi he'd have no way to defend himself.

A plan forming in his mind, Caelus jumped backwards with Quickstep, baiting Rufi before leaping right back into the fray with Brave Engage.  He put as much power into the swing as he could, moving his blade in such a way so that Rufi would have to deflect away from his sword arm and force him to block instead of parry the potential A tier damage.  Rufi stopped his advance, instead dropping into his Steadfast Hold stance.  When the sword met the shield, there was a clear cracking sound, and Rufi cried out in pain, backpedaling so he could see the B tier damage.  His arm was broken through the shield, making it useless.  He scowled, before cutting the bands the held the shield to his arm with his blade.  Sure enough, there was a clear bend where there shouldn't have been, and a purple color already rising to the surface of his skin.  Rufi looked ready to kill Caelus.  Good. Now attack me, and don't hold back.  Lower your defenses completely.  Rufi ran forward yelling at the top of his lungs before leaping into his Forward Cleave.  Caelus planted his back foot, and Sideswiped it, taking only a C tier of damage from the blade striking his shoulder, and raising his arm immediately after Rufi landed to deliver a strong Vicious Cross.  Without his shield, Rufi took the full force of the B tier attack to his chest and collapsed on the spot.

It wasn't until Rufi hit the floor that Caelus realized the crowd was going absolutely nuts.  He had never heard such cheering in his entire life, and it was all for him.  He raised Ripple high and waved to the crowd, receiving another round of cheers and the sound of people shouting his name.  It was glorious, this feeling.  He felt like he was finally heading up in the world, and he loved every second of it.
