It wasn't every day that Asha was asked to help local fellers chop down trees. In fact, this was the first time in her life she would ever asked asked to investigate 'troublesome forest creatures' that terrorized the fellers of Magnostadt and most likely, she assumed, would be the last time she was ever asked to perform this task. Growing up in Balbadd, she never really saw much of forest-like areas. It wasn't barren, she assures you, but it wasn't very scenic either. For the most part, the terrain seemed more flat, and the sky far more open than in Magnostadt, but she didn't really mind all the new features of the earth. It was a longer journey than usually to go toward the forests, as The Plains were just that--a long stretch of plains in between Kou and Magnostadt. The mission brief was very clear-cut: "find the problem, solve the problem, get rewarded." It wasn't very descriptive, which does make her a bit uneasy. She wondered what lurked in the forest that scared these tough men that cut down large trees for lumber. Were they giant forest monsters? Or what if it was a giant carnivorous rafflesia plant? Plant-life never bothered her much, so Asha's mind ran wild with all the possibilities of what could be causing trouble. She figured she would enjoy this job, especially since if she did encounter any new types of flowers or any kind of plants at all, it would be great reference material for future spells! Just recently she's created a few life constructs, and boy were they impressive. She couldn't really make them last very long, and a lot of her spells were very situational and only suited in single combat. She'd be useless in a war! Not that it mattered--owning a flower shop was her only dream. Asha finally found her way to the forest and spoke to the fellers just outside the forest interior. They seemed not scared, just bothered and frustrated that their work was hindered.
"Hello! I'm from Magnostadt Academy. I was sent here to deal with whatever problem you guys were having?" Asha said, introducing herself to the fellers. She's gotten quite accustomed to this sort of thing. It all felt very transactional and business-like--she felt like a professional! A few of the fellers rolled their eyes, but one of them who was nice enough to respond sounded very gentle.
"Ah. Thank you! We've been waiting here for days now! We need to cut down these trees for some festival a tribe in The Plains is having and our deadline is soon. We could probably try and power through, but those goddamn snakes keep going after us every time we try and go deeper into the forest. Think you can help us out?" Asha froze with fear. The man was nice, and probably assumed Asha would be totally fine with this. Surprisingly, Asha thought she would be too, considering her life constructs were in the likeness of snakes. But something about real snakes, not just grass and flowers magically enchanted to be snakes, terrified her.
"Well, uh, um...that...wow. Well, I certainly wasn't expecting, uh, snakes, but...a job's a job, right? You...you all know about...that..." Asha tried to sound confident and aloof about the whole ordeal, but her painfully awkward behavior made the fellers uneasy. Asha was going to go into the forest, just to go and "finish the job," but the head feller decided that it would be best if his two best men went with her into the woods. Emil and Paul were their names, and they were very nice fellows. Emil had dreams of taking over the fellers, while Paul dreamed of one day making his tribe out in the Plains assimilate into heavily civilized society, so that they can have more opportunities in the world. Asha got to know the two really well on their trek toward the forest interior where the snakes were.
"So, if there were snakes here, why didn't you just...cut the trees on the perimeter? I mean how would you even transport the trees out of the forest?" Asha asked, very curious as to their methodology.
"It's always how we've done it, I guess? Never any rhyme or reason...that is strange now that you mention it," Paul replied, now contemplating the entire practice thoroughly. Emil just laughed and kept moving on through, bringing Asha right to the forest interior where the snakes started to appear.
"There's a clearing just over there, so what we do is bring the wood there because it's closer, and then take the chopped up wood out of the forest. It's inefficient, but it's always how we done it," Emil answered. He pointed toward several of the trees around them, alerting to Asha that these are where the snakes lurk, "I assume that since we have been cutting the trees this way, the snakes got pretty angry with usand are striking back?" Asha nodded at Emil in agreement with his comment and studied the area. She hoped that a snake would just pop out of the woodwork or something--but it didn't seem very likely that they would just bum rush her and the two fellers. Snakes always struck Asha as cunning, like foxes, but reptilian. The scaly fox she called them.
"Okay I think we need to lure them out--start chopping down a tree," Asha ordered, keeping a very close watch on the boys. They shrugged their shoulders, and both removing their axes, began chopping down a tree near to them. Asha's hypothesis proved correct, because as soon as the fellers began to hack at the tree, snakes emerged from neighboring trees, and around branches of the tree being chopped down. The fellers got a little uneasy, but kept chopping. If the tree fell, so do the snakes, and that makes them that much easier to kill. "Keep chopping! The less of them in the sky the less chance they'll be able to la--AHHH" Asha said, before a snake landed right on her shoulder. It attempted to coil around her neck, but she grabbed the head of the snake and pulled on her neck, whipping the snake onto the forest floor.
"You all right miss? We can help!" Paul asked, genuinely concerned. Asha just yelled a loud no before jumping into the fray.
"Alright you little dinguses, I can do that too!" She yelled, aiming for the snake she just tossed off her body. With just one look, she was able to pinpoint the sheen of its skin, and brought her staff to the ground, casting a nice spell to start with this bad boy. "Quah Alsif Krmah!" The two vines erupted from the ground, behaving just as snakes would and coiled around the thrown snake. The vines coiled around and twisted the snake until it's body was ripped apart by the pressure, and the snake lay there, cleaved in two, and motionless. Unable to see signs of any other snakes, Asha continued to search around, hoping one would pop out. Unfortunately, she wasn't checking to see if they were slithering on the ground, and she felt a stinging bite on her ankle. Asha cried out in pain, and unable to dislodge the snake from her body with her hand, she decided to try an alternative yet dangerous method.
"Oh this is going to hurt like hell...Gdhur Mlzmah!" The vines erupted from the ground, latching onto the snake and ripping it out from Asha's leg. The pain increased twofold as she felt her flesh rip off her skin, and the snake's teeth drag its way across her flesh. Numbing her mind to the pain, she saw the immobile snake being held in the air by the vines, and finishing it off quickly, Asha summoned Lamia to charge at the snake, rushing at impressive speed toward the snake, and taking one large bite out of it, cleaving the snake in two again.
"You all right miss!? You've been takin' a heavy beatin'!" Paul asked, concerned for her safety. Asha just held up her index finger while catching her breath.
"You keep cutting! That tree's got the last of them okay! They're really not all that bad! My foot feels different but I think that has more to do with it bleeding very profusely oh wow I need to heal...that..." Asha was starting to feel very faint, and in an act of desperation, touched her staff to her foot and murmured Tgndid Ms'ny, restoring the wound a little bit so she wouldn't pass out. As she was examining the woods thoroughly this time, she noticed the tree nearly falling down, and when she did, she saw four snakes literally what looked like leaping from the branches and onto Paul and Emil's heads.
"Look out!" She cried, alerting Emil and Paul to get out of the way. Wasting no time in letting them injure either of the fellers, Asha cast Rkud Aldm, and had each vine that emerged from the ground catch one snake and keep it immobile in the air. Asha gave a sly, arrogant looking grin before silently patting herself on the back.
"Alright, now this is something to sink your teeth into, Rgs'ah Alurdah!" The roses emerged from the ground aiming for the snakes. Of the four roses, two hit one snake, ripping its body to shreds, as the remaining two roses tore another snake's body apart. With just two more snakes to go, Asha relished in the level of overkill in defeating this reptilian terrorists.
"ZAHHAK!" She shouted, watching as the serpentine life construct she summon cleaved another snake in two with its bite, and vanished back into the rukh. The final snake was there, just waiting to be annihilated. Bored with all of the antics already, Asha lazily cast Quah Alsif Zxrah on the final snake, having the branches rip through the snake's body and poke holes in it.
"Job's done." Asha said to the fellers, and gleefully left the forest, leaving the two men to keep a safe distance from Asha as she gave off a maniacal, murderous persona. The head feller thanked Asha, and Paul and Emil saw her off, commending her magical prowess. Asha merely said "I know," and walked off, not quite realizing the arrogance behind her attitude. And with that, she returned back to Magnostadt and gave a detailed report of her journey.
