Today was the day. Kaveh walked up to the Historical Society's base of operations. He was met by Hassan who was standing nearing the bottom steps of the building. It seems that the man was just as anxious as Kaveh was about their expedition. Kaveh wasn't sure what to think about this though, he had only interacted with Akmet. Hassan seemed like the strong silent type. Kaveh could only hope that his assumption of the large man was wrong. If he was right, this would be a rather dull trip to the ruins and back.

The two men boarded Kaveh's magic carpet, flying out passed the temple that Kaveh had gotten so accustomed to visiting. Kaveh sighed as he passed over the temple and followed Hassan's guidance for where they were going. "We're almost there." Kaveh turned his head to look at Hassan. The magician was a little shocked to hear the man speak, but wasn't surprised by his voice. It was as he assumed it would be. It had a low frequency, but it was of a booming nature. A commanding, authoritative voice befitting Hassan's physique.

Just as the battle hardened archaeologist said, the Library seemed to be ahead of them. It was a bit different than the temple he explored. The temple was completely buried under the sand. This library, however, was massive! The top half of it was still above ground. It seemed like they wouldn't be too far underground, at least. The magic carpet came to a slow halt and the two men stepped down from it. Kaveh, of course, had to pull it around his shoulders and fasten it into place. Hassan still couldn't get over how the red magician used his flying carpet as a cloak to disguise it. It was very plain though, so it worked. They didn't spend much time speaking, unfortunately for Kaveh. Hassan was the strong and silent type. This would at least leave the magician to his thoughts... That shouldn't be TOO bad.

The pair entered the top of the library slowly and carefully. They knew there would be a creature to meet them, but they didn't know when they would run into it. Despite the anticipation of the emergence of this creature, the duo continued to scour the top level of the Library. There wasn't really much there. A few murals and a couple of urns. Nothing too extraordinary. At least, not to Hassan. Kaveh seemed to have been fawning over the artifacts that they were running in to. If he felt that one or two of them needed to be taken back to the Society, Hassan would inform him that their collection of Torran artifacts already contained pieces very similar to those that they were happening upon in the Library.

After they were sure of the objects on the top level, they began to descend. One thing Kaveh noticed, was that the torches were already lit. He gave them a puzzled look and stopped for a moment. Hassan noticed the hesitation and spoke up, "My brother lit these torches. His party went down as far as they could, but where ambushed. Akmet was the only one to make it out. The old man used to have some other worldly skills before he got old." Kaveh was a little impressed with the knowledge he just found out. Akmet was with Hassan's brother then? I wonder how long ago this place was last touched... I wonder if Akmet taught Hassan some of those moves... The red magician's mind started to wander again before noticing that Hassan was still moving forward. Kaveh figured that he needed to stick close to his partner should anything happen.

As they traveled into the depths of the Library, the men could notice that there weren't as many of the torches lit. They both stopped and looked at each other, almost as if they were thinking the same thing. Kaveh pulled his pipe from his pocket and gripped it tightly. "Guide me." The command was given and the rukh obeyed. Instead of the usual one fireball, this time the rukh went directly to the torches and lit them. Kaveh and Hassan resumed their trek almost immediately once the dim hallway was lit. "I have a feeling we're close. The markings on the walls are starting to resemble the ones in Akmet's story." Kaveh's attention went to the walls. They were covered in the markings that eluded Bahir and were also accompanied by other symbols. They weren't the same as the markings of the language, but they definitely were alien.

The two men found themselves at the end of the hallway shortly after Hassan's comment. Kaveh looked back and forth, trying to figure out what to do. Hassan, however, was standing at a point in the wall where the writing seemed to skip over. He pushed on the section of the wall and it swung open slowly. Kaveh mentally scolded himself for looking over something so obvious, while Hassan withheld a laugh at his partner's reaction. The men walked into the new room and were instantly overwhelmed by what they saw. Kaveh even dropped to his knees for a moment. There were so many books. Stacks upon stacks of knowledge from the Torran people. Kaveh was saddened that he only had to choose one. Hassan pulled the magician back to his feet and the two began their search.

To Kaveh's surprise, the search didn't take very long. It was almost too short of a search for Kaveh. He sighed as he pulled out the piece of paper with the text on the front that was supposed to match. The markings looked exactly the same. Kaveh pocketed the piece of paper once more and picked up the book. He found Hassan and the two began to exit the room. As they made their way back into the hallway, all of the torches were extinguished. The two men paused for a moment, neither wanting to go forward into the creepy scene. "...Guide me." The torches were alight again! This time, however, there was a creature at the end of the hallway waiting for them. It was a giant stone replica of a soldier.

"I'm not going crazy am I? We definitely did NOT pass that on our way in, right?" As the magician was trying to reassure himself, his partner had started moving towards the giant. Unsheathing a scimitar. "You're right!" Hassan broke out into a sprint and the giant came alive. The two warriors' swords met, the clashing sound ringing through the hallway. Fuck... FUCK! Kaveh could only think simple things at the moment. He started jogging to catch up with his teammate and fished his pipe out of his pocket once more. Hassan was pushed back a ways and fell on his back. The moment the man hit the ground, Kaveh casted his spell: Fireball. The mass of fire soared over Hassan and straight towards the creature. It didn't help much, unfortunately, as the giant blocked the attack with his shield. Kaveh's eyes widened and recast his fireball, trying to hurt the creature somehow, but the creature's shield was too strong. The fireball did happen to buy time for Hassan to get back on his feet though.

Hassan's body started to emanate a faint yellow aura and he began moving faster. He shoulder charged into the giant and caused it to stumble backwards. Now I have an opening! "Pillar of Flame!" Kaveh timed his spell perfectly so that the pillar emerged as the giant stumbled. The guardian fell backwards right into it. When the pillar faded, the guardian was back on his feet, sword and shield in hand. Hassan took a few steps backwards as the creature started to make his way towards them. This time, Hassan's scimitar began to glow. The creature brought it blade down on what would have been Hassan and Kaveh's head, but the man's scimitar was able to hold it at bay. Again! This time, Kaveh used his Trick Ball the tiny sphere of flame seemed to go past both Hassan and the Guardian. When it was a a safe distance behind the stone giant, it expanded instantly, dealing more damage to the creature.

The two were able to put some space between them and the giant now. The guardian seemed to be wearing down, just like they were. "Alright... We need to get out of here. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up." Kaveh nodded and gripped the tome. "Can you sprint out with whatever it was you were using before. I'll try to fly pass him." Hassan nodded and the two made a very short prayer, hoping that they were going to get out of the Library. Just as they planned, Hassan's legs began to glow again and he sprinted towards the end of the hallway. The guardian wasn't fast enough to stop him, so he focused on Kaveh instead. The magician was using his gravity lift to try and get by the guardian while it was after Hassan. He didn't account for the guardian to give up on Hassan as soon as it did.

The creature brought its blade around, using its stone crusher to try and down the magician. Luckily, Kaveh's borg sensed the attack and came to his aid. The sound of the borg breaking and Kaveh hitting the ground caught Hassan's attention and the warrior came back for him. "HEY! Over here!" The guardian turned towards Hassan and brought his blade down onto the man. Hassan's scimitar was able to absorb most of the impact, but he was running too low on magoi to do much else. The guardian realized this and was treating Hassan like a rag doll, grabbing the man by his arm and then throwing him into the wall.

The warrior gained some mighty bruises and broken limbs. The guardian was about to end the man until it was surrounded by fire. "Flame serpent.." Kaveh's eyes were a shining amber color as the snake formed flame coiled around the guardian, the heat melting the stone that the guardian was made of. Kaveh unwrapped his cloak-carpet and boarded it, zooming passed the melting stone giant and scooping up Hassan before the molten rock reached him. The two exited the Library and made their way to the Historical Society headquarter.

Back at the base, Hassan was being patched up as Akmet debriefed Kaveh. Akmet nodded and sighed at the turn of events. He figured that they would have been better equipped for the creature, but the fact that they were still alive was enough for him. "Kaveh... go home and rest. Come back tomorrow evening. I have a gift for you to receive. Until then, I feel as though your mother is worried sick about you." Kaveh nodded to the man and slowly made his way to the door. As he opened the door of the HQ, Akmet called out to him once more. "Oh yes! Kaveh! Welcome to the Historical Society."
