After an extensive 'interview' with the captured Black Crows that had assaulted the Villa HQ, Maximus Cypriatus was able to obtain information on where the Black Crows hideouts were in the area. It turns out there are quite a few that have gone hostile to Madam Trixie. Not only does the Kou Operations forces hold a debt of honor to the Pirate Queen for being an ally, but Garret had wanted to set up his recruits to learn sailing from the Captain. The closest camp they have to the villa is just north of the place, called 'The Black Crows Nest'. Eliminate the threat there and move on to the next group of enemies.

Garret waited outside of the room that Maximus Cypriatus was using to gather the information from one of their captives. Even though he knew that Maximus was a user of cold reading, and preferred non-violent means of interrogation, Garret did not have the stomach to simply watch. He could only imagine it devolving quickly, and his Inquisitor being forced to perform various 'techniques' to get the member of the Black Crows to talk.

With the man having been in there for some time, Garret had his paperwork brought in for him so he could keep his mind off of what could possibly be taking place within the room. Once he lost himself in his work, the time passed by fairly quickly. The door opened, and Garret looked up to see Maximus with a smug smile on his face. It was only natural that Garret would equate that smile to success. "So, tell me, what did we find out?" There was a level of anticipation that existed within him, and leaked out onto the surface of his features.

"We've found the location of three of their bases. A camp, a fortress, and a stronghold. It looks like they were paid by a third party in order to attack our villa. They had no idea who we were, and simply believed us to be easy pickings. They were hired to pillage the villa, but they intended to betray their patron and keep the pillaged goods for themselves." Maximus explained what he found, describing the location of the meeting place these bandits had with the third party man as well as the locations of their Camp, Fortress and Stronghold. He continued to explain that while these locations were the vertical escalation points of the group that had attacked them, there were still others out there.

Garret nodded, taking in the explanation as he finished up the last bit of paperwork that was brought to him. There was more in his office, he was sure, but Acius would have to take care of that work. "I'll take care of that problem. Inform Acius that he will be filling in for me while I handle this issue."

Maximus nodded before casting a sidelong glance towards the holding room. "What should we do with the prisoners?" It was a valid concern, and one that caused some hesitation with Garret. The question hung in the air for a moment while the spymaster considered it.

"We don't have the space, nor the resources, to simply keep prisoners. They've seen too much, and they attempted to ransack and pillage our villa. Have them executed. Quickly and painlessly." Garret made sure to emphasize the last part, as he was not a fan of prolonged deaths. The bandits lived a dangerous life, and they should have been aware that their choice of occupation could lead them to death. Garret's organization was not one that rehabilitated the public; it was an intelligence operation, one that could not afford to have inner details being leaked.

Garret left the compound and made his way to the bandit's camp after having squared away the final necessities of the work to be done.

-----------------

He found himself casing the camp, some twenty meters away in a dense part of the forest. These men seemed like they wouldn't be too much trouble, so long as they were approached appropriately. The camp, in total, seemed to have about twenty men. Garret's true aim was to slay the leader, however, and kept a close eye out on their movements while circling around and looking for what would look to be his tent.

Taking care to not make noise, Garret moved through the foliage at a slow pace. He noted, while moving, that there were a mixture of various guards that the camp had. Both archers and swordsmen alike littered the camp, and he knew that his best bet would be to close distance quickly while engaging their soldiers in melee in order to ensure a minimization of their ability to use their arrows. He continued to case the camp, and further understood that this group had a very tight line of guards, making slipping into the camp undetected nearly impossible while it was day time. This level of resistance will not require a night raid, though... I want to finish them fast and strike the next level of resistance before they have an opportunity to react. To do so, I will need to work fast as soon as I decide to attack, and I would prefer that no messengers left during the fight. Garret made a quick plan of attack, taking into consideration his end game.

Killing people, like every job out there, had its advantages and disadvantages. One of those advantages was being able to choose your own hours, as he had often joked with those he called his friends.

However, the worst part of this job was that you often had to be called out to rather unpleasant places to be able to enact parts of the contract. There were missions that had required him to slog through tundras, or to get to a ship that had already left port. So, in comparison, this place wasn't the worst he'd ever been in.

That being said, it wasn't something that he'd have chosen if he had the chance. He was often forced to take undesirable jobs because of the location of them or trying to get maximum money. He had a moral basis, but after that...well, sometimes needs must. As long as they deserved it, he would take it.

This job, for example, required him to sneak into an enemy base, kill the general and get out. That was going to be a total bitch. From his position in the tree line, he was able to take a quick count of the people, and the exact amount... was too fucking many. Direct approach was impossible. That meant he had to use stealth.

Thankfully, even with the twenty odd men guarding the place, most of them were taking up the perimeter. They didn't even look in the trees for people going in that way. With his years in the circus, crossing the tree limbs were a piece of cake. he only stumbled once, and then all he had to do was grab a branch above his head and he had enough leverage to secure his position.

Finally making his way into the camp proper, he took a look at the area around him. Two men with overgrown swords, and a single archer messing around with his bow. He wasn't even paying attention - the cardinal sin of an archer, not knowing your surroundings. Were this man doing his job properly, Jian would have been caught by now.

So, knowing that these men would get in his way and assist the general (or worse, alert the other sixteen), he was going to have to kill them. He could actually incorporate that into his entrance, people acted as very appropriate cushions for falls.

Positioning himself above one of the men with an oversized looking sword, a tall fellow with raven black hair, Jian got ready to use the man as his living airbag. Well, living airbag would be a problem, he had to kill this guy first.

A flick of the wrist and his fan dug into the man's back, severing his spine. Before he could even scream, Jian jumped from the branch, knocking him over and physically crushing his head under his feet as Jian landed, making a red mess among the greenery.

So far so good. Now he just had to kill the man, find a way out, and get away before anything went wrong.

This was going to be a total bitch.

Garret's movements found himself, unbeknownst to the assassin named Jian, on the opposite side of the camp. It was simply fate that the two of them chose to attack the camp at the same time, as Garret saw an opening. Well, it wasn't so much an opening as it was a slight blind spot to other guards. The location Garret was staring at simply had two swordsman picketing the area; normally, this would be enough to give them an opportunity to sound an alarm if one fell, as the other would see this happen. Garret, however, had a different plan in mind. Bringing out Kuroi Shimo, his wand, the Magician leveled the medium for his Magoi towards the two men from within the foliage.

Focusing, he whispered commands to the Rukh which gathered two small orbs of water. A gentle waft of wet air passed by him as these orbs formed, and the spell itself created a highly pressurized and thin stream of water which shot forward at a quick speed and pierced the necks of the two Black Crow Swordsman. Garret had used the spell Jet Stream, ideal for dispatching a small group of opponents in a fast manner. They hadn't an opportunity to cry out an alert, which gave Garret the opening he needed to rush forward and hide behind some rocks. If he circled around to the left of the rocks he would be closer to the back of the camp, whereas the right side of the rocks would bring him to the front of the camp. He briefly thought, for just a moment, to end the entire thing with a single spell. It would lay waste to the entire camp and finish the job he had been sent for.

He quickly dismissed that notion, however, as he needed to keep this one under wraps while he performed his mission. The noise alone from the spell that would take care of this camp would echo throughout the area and cause those within kilometers to know that something was off. Instead, he looked over to the front area of the camp. It was his biggest desire to cut off any opponents from sending out a report, which would require him to carefully assess the individual situations as he came across them.

What he saw were three guards, each swordsman. Taking out his Royal Dragon Fan, Garret rushed forward with River Styx Style: Water Falls in Reverse. His speed was quick enough to dart past the openings without drawing too much attention from within the camp, however one of the three guards that were talking to each other happened to turn just as Garret came dashing close in. "Shit. was the only word that he could get out of his mouth as Garret slammed his fan into the man's skull, using it as a make-shift club. The other two turned and drew their swords, and Garret mentally repeated the same curse in his mind as the guard had just a moment before.

One of them cried out an alarm. "INTRUDER! WEST OF CAMP ENTRANCE!" He was facing the direction of the camp, and therefore didn't see that Garret had dispatched his friend with a heavy thrust of his fan into the man's chest. While it didn't pierce, the blunt damage was enough to break a rib which had pierced the man's heart. When the other guard turned to see Garret, the spy was already swinging his fan at the new guard. The man brought his sword up to defend against the weapon, but the blade broke beneath the force of the magic-enforced weapon, and Garret sent another attack at the guard, taking his life as well.

Now came the difficult part; dealing with the sudden surge of opponents that would come while ensuring that they didn't send somebody off in order to inform the Bandit Fortress of his presence. He knew that they wouldn't do so at first, as he was just one man. But after enough of them fell, it would soon become apparent that they would need to warn the Fortress people and get reinforcements if they could. Garret tsked while he moved forward, getting ready to reach the next picket point and face a large number of opponents.

Jian

An alarm was raised around the camp as Jian walked into the open, his eyes opening in honest shock as he was surprised anyone had noticed him. Had he somehow screwed up? The man's body was behind the cover of several tents, was he just really unlucky? That was when he heard the rest of the warning - West of camp. The... alarm wasn't for him? Someone else had attacked the camp whilst he was doing his job?

Okay, at this point, he was having to actually stop himself from laughing. This was all too covenient - what next, the general was just going to have a heart attack? Normally he'd have been suspicious about things turning out this well, but they had known nothing about this attack. The way they saw it, all they had to worry about was this intruder from the west, and he had to monopolize on that thought whilst he still had the chance.

That being said, part of him wanted to go over to the West of the camp and make sure that the intruder was okay. After all, he had done such a good job of helping him secure his way through the camp, and Jian was the kind of person to believe that one good turn deserved another. It was why he refused to kill people he judged as "good people". But, he knew that he had something better to do first. He'd leave through the west and help the man if he still needed assistance... or was even alive at that point.

Now not even having to sneak through the camp, Jian decided on his next target. The bowman was the only one in the area who hadn't left yet, and that was because he was using his position here to get a good sight of the intruder. The fact that she hadn't let off a single shot yet either meant she was having a hard time finding him or that she was taking a few moments to get the perfect shot.

Either way, this gave Jian a perfect opportunity to get the jump on this girl. Pulling a small red vial outside of his tunic's inner pocket, he poured a small amount on the top of his blade, before taking the jump on her. His silent footsteps allowed him to cross the thicket to get directly behind her for a second, before he acted.

First came the paralysis - Running from his cover, he smashed his palm into her back, hitting a pressure-point that he knew from personal experience would make her legs lock up and become unmovable. Then came the strike of the blade down her back, poisoning her and making sure that she would be unable to react properly, even were the paralysis to wear off before he finished.

Slash, hack, slash, hack - for almost a full minute, he tore through her with his fan again and again, cutting her into tiny pieces. The poison stopped the pain getting to her brain in time, and when he finally caused her body to collapse, she was bleeding out into the grass, muffled by her face full of sod.

Now he could focus on the main prize. Their tent was staring him in the face, and for a moment he wished that he could simply set fire to it and let her get trapped inside the burning fabric. It'd certainly kill her, but that'd draw the attention of the rest of her forces. He hoped that the intruder from the west had been able to put a sizeable dent in their forces. Hell, maybe he'd have some back up in doing this.

At first the opponents filtered in slowly. It seemed as if the camp wasn't entirely ready to immediately go on an offensive against intruders, but Garret knew that this wouldn't be the case for long. It was simply a matter of seconds before they all had their gear ready to go and strike out against the man. His lack of a means to handle such a large number of opponents in a quite fashion frustrated the magician.

That frustration, however, would have to be saved. Kuroi Shimo in left hand and Royal Dragon Fan in his right, Garret continued the fight against those who began trickling towards his location. His most immediate opponent struck at him with his longsword, which Garret ducked beneath before sending a kick to the man's gut; it did not drop him, but it bought Garret enough time to turn around and clash against another sword with his fan. Garret sent a side kick, of the thrust variety, towards this new opponent. The attack sent the person to the ground, but Garret still had no time to follow up. Another two swordsman had approached the Magician, preparing to strike him alongside the first swordsman Garret had struck. The three, in tandem, would be difficult to defend against alone.

Instead of holding his ground, Garret slipped to the left of his left-most opponent. As he passed the man, Garret sent a blow with his fan to the back of the swordsman's head, dispatching the attacker with the high-quality 'weapon'. As he passed that attacker, he noted that there were more opponents coming in from the direction he began to move towards. They numbered to be about five. Garret took a turn, deciding that this would not be the best course to take and deciding that the two that were behind him would be a better choice.

Quickly spinning, Garret found that the two that were standing there from before had multiplied. Wonderful. Rin was right. I have been slacking off on my stealth training lately. It looks as if my lack of field work has caused my current predicament. And this is no longer a situation where I can use my strongest spell as a last-ditch effort... Well, there is that possibility, but the collateral damage may not be worth it. I have yet to even confirm the location of their General.

There were now six with the group, and Garret knew that he was surrounded. Once they saw the wand in his left hand, the group slowly began to fan out, careful of his the Magician's spells. The last thing they wanted was to be caught in a large blast of a spell. From that point on, the group was fairly clever. Four men stepped forward, gingerly, watching Garret's every move. Once they got within four meters of the man, they stopped and nodded to each other. Garret knew that they were going to attack him, and were setting up their timing so that he couldn't possibly take them all on at once.

At the same time, however, Garret knew that if he also crossed a gap it would cause their timing to be off. Such a trap would give Garret the advantage, and so the man watched the group, gauging their movements for when it would be best for him to move as well. He kept an eye on the one in front of him and the one to the left of him; they would be the two he would aim for. They burst forward, and Garret waited until their second step before bursting forward himself, hoping that it would be too late for them to change directions with him moving forward during their mid-stride.

They defied his expectations, however. Having guessed at Garret's intentions, the two whom he had kept an eye out for stopped short of Garret's own burst forward. Having been caught off balance as he had believed he would be clashing with them at this point, the two then rushed forward. Garret had just enough time to block one of the weapon's attacks with his fan, incidentally breaking the blade, however the other three managed to hit his Borg. True to the bandit style, the four quickly dashed away to safety after that exchange of blows.

The man whose weapon had broken replaced it with a new blade. They paused, sizing Garret up once more. The man would have to take some desperate measures in order to survive, now that he was backed up to a proverbial wall, and they wanted to make sure to take absolute care with handling a Magician in those kind of situations.

Garret stretched his senses, mentally begging the Rukh for an answer. Something that would indiscriminately defeat his opponents before him. They responded, and a plan quickly formulated within the Magician's mind. The spell that he crafted with the cascading knowledge that the Rukh whispered to him would be indiscriminate, just as he had asked, which meant that he would have to handle this in a special manner.

The bandits, sensing something was up, began their movements again. This time, however, they moved in a truly frightening manner. Where they learned what they were doing, Garret did not know. 5 of them had formed a 5-pointed star around Garret, while the other 6 formed two 3-pointed stars. They moved across predetermined lines, starting with a walk and then translating into a jog. The movements were dangerous, Garret could instinctively gather that much. If he allowed them to continue much longer they would make short work of him.

Slowly, they closed in on the man. Looking left and right, Garret had to constantly turn in order to make sure that nobody was rushing at his back. While doing this, he cast a spell Ice Phase. It would be the spell that would allow him to escape unscathed. They watched him carefully as he cast the spell, but once they saw no immediate effect the group rushed in to attack him. Instead of balking or hesitating, Garret intoned the words for the new spell; Iron Maiden. Ice formed beneath their feet and half a meter above their heads. The tents and rock cropping made it difficult for them to be seen from the camp itself. The spell clamped down upon all of them, however due to Garret's Ice Phase he was able to escape unscathed. The sound of the group of eleven men and women dying to the spell was rather sickening.

Unknown to him, it was at this time that the Assassin had just finished off the archer who was in the middle of camp. Garret, sure that there were no more small fry, moved forward into the camp while putting away his wand.

It was there that he saw a man standing over another dead bandit. It gave Garret pause, as the man had the features of a fellow Kouen. "Who are yo..."

Garret was cut off by the sound of a loud female bandit General coming out of the tent. "What's all this ruckus? Can't handle a single intru... Well. Two intruders." She looked at the two of them, and Garret understood that the man standing in the camp was not an enemy. As if knowing that now was not a time for words, the woman took up her General's Blade and General's Shield and struck out at Jian after closing the distance. If Jian responded with an attack back at her, she would attempt to block it with her General's Shield.

Garret immediately moved in to give assistance to the other man...

It seemed that  he was right earlier when he said that he was going to get some backup. Honestly, he had been joking when he said that - there was a strong part of his mind that was sure that it was just some unlucky person who had travelled over the wrong area of land and was going to wind up being killed simply because of where they had chosen to take a hike. To see the man like this, and to notice his Kouen appearance, was honestly a bit of a shock.

Though, to be quite frank, not as much of a shock as it was to hear the general come out of his tent.... or her tent. Okay, he was confused now. This was the only camp around here like this for miles, and yet he was certain that the man had said the general was a man.

What was this situation, now that he thought about it. He had heard a snippet about this organization, but what did he really know about it other than they abused villagers? How much could he really know if he wasn't even sure about the gender of his target. Had he misheard him and he'd actually called her a woman? was it all just a miscommunication? He really fucking hoped so, or he had just cut a swathe through the wrong fucking camp.

Pulling his fans up, he prepared to have to deal with her. Even if she was the wrong person, she was still a threat. This intruder had come to kill her, and if she had a heavily armed group of men that obviously didn't belong to the actual military of Reim. it was almost guaranteed that she had some sort of immoral position.

As she ran towards him, he decided that he didn't much care for her proactive attitude. Running back towards her and concentrating his leg muscles into a jump, he performed a perfect 1080' back-flip, landing behind her, tucking and rolling to exactly behind her. However, it was what he did in the air that was more impressive than his actual physical prowess itself.

A small red capsule fell from his sleeve mid-way through the air, landing directly on the general's head as she deflected with her general's shield. Unfortunately for her, that was the worst possible thing that she could have done. The capsule erupted into putrid, black smog, and with her blocking with her shield the smoke quickly covered her entire body, clogging her throat and nostrils and burning her eyes.

For Jian's case, he continued rolling until he was finally out of the smoke, having kept his eyes closed from the moment he heard the capsule explode. He knew from personal experience just how painful the smoke was to have in your eyes, and judging by her screech of discomfort she was trying to blink it out of her eyes as he had that thought.

"Oi, intruder!" Jian called, turning around and facing the black-haired man without having gotten up from his roll, currently on all fours. He didn't care too much about his pride right now, just that this girl was taken out before she could do anything. "blast her! do it now, before she can see again!"

Garret was approaching the two and watched as Jian performed an acrobatic move while throwing a vial of... Some black substance, at the woman. She attempted to defend against the thing, yet the shield was ill-equipped to deal with a cloud-based attack. The man had some unorthodox skills which reminded Garret of those that the network used back in the homeland of Kou. The yelled out instructions to Garret to attack the woman while she was disoriented. With no time to wonder who this man was or why he was there, Garret rushed forward.

The cloud of black smoke was an issue, for sure, and Garret didn't want to directly reveal he was a Magician at this point. He slowed down as he approached the cloud and held his breath while closing his eyes. Judging from the size of the cloud, the woman would be in range after four steps in. He using his ears, he listened for the groans of irritation coming from the woman as she attempted to wipe her eyes of the substance.

Using that sound to home in on his opponent, Garret let loose two techniques; River Styx Style: Sea's Horizon, followed by the second part of his combo River Styx Style: Crescent Whirlpool. Garret felt his roundhouse kick connect with the woman's torso, and felt a rib break. His follow up attack used the area he hit with his roundhouse kick as a measurement of where her skull was, and the crescent kick that he followed up with drove the heel of his foot into the woman's head. A sickening crack was heard, and Garret ran out of the smoke. Once he was out, he took a few heavy breaths.

He looked over to Jian and considered what he would do. Considering what must be done... Perhaps I will go with... No. Garret decided against revealing too much. Instead, he greeted the man with a practiced lie. "It's strange to meet another man from our nation in a place such as this. My name is Lu Feng, though while in Reim I normally go by the name 'Garret'." Garret bowed to Jian, showing a modest amount of respect to the man who fought alongside him. "What business brings you here, if I might ask..?"
