Garret waited outside of the room that Maximus Cypriatus was using to gather the information from one of their captives. Even though he knew that Maximus was a user of cold reading, and preferred non-violent means of interrogation, Garret did not have the stomach to simply watch. He could only imagine it devolving quickly, and his Inquisitor being forced to perform various 'techniques' to get the member of the Black Crows to talk.
With the man having been in there for some time, Garret had his paperwork brought in for him so he could keep his mind off of what could possibly be taking place within the room. Once he lost himself in his work, the time passed by fairly quickly. The door opened, and Garret looked up to see Maximus with a smug smile on his face. It was only natural that Garret would equate that smile to success. "So, tell me, what did we find out?" There was a level of anticipation that existed within him, and leaked out onto the surface of his features.
"We've found the location of three of their bases. A camp, a fortress, and a stronghold. It looks like they were paid by a third party in order to attack our villa. They had no idea who we were, and simply believed us to be easy pickings. They were hired to pillage the villa, but they intended to betray their patron and keep the pillaged goods for themselves." Maximus explained what he found, describing the location of the meeting place these bandits had with the third party man as well as the locations of their Camp, Fortress and Stronghold. He continued to explain that while these locations were the vertical escalation points of the group that had attacked them, there were still others out there.
Garret nodded, taking in the explanation as he finished up the last bit of paperwork that was brought to him. There was more in his office, he was sure, but Acius would have to take care of that work. "I'll take care of that problem. Inform Acius that he will be filling in for me while I handle this issue."
Maximus nodded before casting a sidelong glance towards the holding room. "What should we do with the prisoners?" It was a valid concern, and one that caused some hesitation with Garret. The question hung in the air for a moment while the spymaster considered it.
"We don't have the space, nor the resources, to simply keep prisoners. They've seen too much, and they attempted to ransack and pillage our villa. Have them executed. Quickly and painlessly." Garret made sure to emphasize the last part, as he was not a fan of prolonged deaths. The bandits lived a dangerous life, and they should have been aware that their choice of occupation could lead them to death. Garret's organization was not one that rehabilitated the public; it was an intelligence operation, one that could not afford to have inner details being leaked.
Garret left the compound and made his way to the bandit's camp after having squared away the final necessities of the work to be done.
-----------------
He found himself casing the camp, some twenty meters away in a dense part of the forest. These men seemed like they wouldn't be too much trouble, so long as they were approached appropriately. The camp, in total, seemed to have about twenty men. Garret's true aim was to slay the leader, however, and kept a close eye out on their movements while circling around and looking for what would look to be his tent.
Taking care to not make noise, Garret moved through the foliage at a slow pace. He noted, while moving, that there were a mixture of various guards that the camp had. Both archers and swordsmen alike littered the camp, and he knew that his best bet would be to close distance quickly while engaging their soldiers in melee in order to ensure a minimization of their ability to use their arrows. He continued to case the camp, and further understood that this group had a very tight line of guards, making slipping into the camp undetected nearly impossible while it was day time. This level of resistance will not require a night raid, though... I want to finish them fast and strike the next level of resistance before they have an opportunity to react. To do so, I will need to work fast as soon as I decide to attack, and I would prefer that no messengers left during the fight. Garret made a quick plan of attack, taking into consideration his end game.
